Niamh and Ian’s real wedding has everything you could need in a dream day; lots of love and luxurious vibes is a country setting. The addition of lush greens and gold created an opulent edge to the rustic setting at Ballybeg House in Wicklow with its rustic stonework, open fires and Victorian wedding marquee! The gorgeous day was captured by IG Studio with these beautiful photos below! Let’s take a look...
Niamh's ethereal tulle gown was from the Daarlana Collection, which is exclusive to The White Room, Mullingar in Mestmeath. We just love the botanical-inspired appliqué on the bodice.
The gorgeous stationery with motifs of eucalyptus was created by Appleberry Press in Wicklow. Simply beautiful!
The couple first met over a game of Jenga on a random night out in 2016. "It was Super Bowl Sunday and myself and my friend were out in town for dinner. We went for a few drinks afterwards in P Macs and the place was absolutely jammed," says Niamh. "There were a few seats left at a table with a gang of lads from Navan, and we ended up eventually chatting to them. Ian challenged me to a game of Jenga and we really did hit it off straight away, and after three dates Ian asked me out."
Ian popped the question when they were on a trip to Northern Ireland for their fourth anniversary. "I had no idea it was coming," says Niamh. "Poor Ian! I didn’t make it easy for him. He was initially meant to propose at the Giant’s Causeway, but when we arrived it started to drizzle, so I asked if we could turn back." With that plan down the drain, Ian waited until the following day, when tehy went for a walk on White Rock’s beach along the Causeway coastline. "He asked to get a photo of me up on the rocks and when I turned around he was down on one knee, it was just perfect."
Choosing Ballybeg House as their wedding venue was an easy choice. They wanted somewhere that we could take over for a few days, like a destination wedding but in Ireland. "We both love music so we wanted the venue to have space for a proper session on the second day and Ballybeg has the most incredible space for that. It was the first venue we viewed and as soon as we saw it and met the owners, we knew that was it. The setting is idyllic and the place is so full of character."
Niamh's colour palette for her flowers and her bridal party really leaned into the verdant surrounds and the effect was fresh and elegant. "We wanted a very laid back and rustic vibe. Tee from Pairs and Peaches was fantastic and totally got the look we were after - lots of natural neutral and green tones."
Niamh and Ian both work in the food and drink industry, and Niamh has a food blog so for them the food was the most important aspect of the day. Molly’s Larder, the onsite caterer at Ballybeg were fantastic and helped us curate our dream menu!"
Niamh says that Ballybeg made the day extra wonderful and all of this was captured on film by their videographer VowArt who create unique and indie-inspired films. "We loved being able to have the actual marriage ceremony on site in the beautiful ceremony room and being able to tailor the running order of that, as well as the ceremony music. Smaller elements also made it that bit more personal, like making our own ceremony booklets and table names which were all places we had been together. When turned around there was a surprise story and photo of us at the location."
The couple's advice is to not sweat the small stuff. "It can be very difficult not to get bogged down in the smaller details," says Niamh. "If you don’t have time to get wedding favours sorted or hairspray for the bathrooms, it most definitely will not leave a lasting impression on anybody! I would also try to get as many things organised well in advance, so you’re not swamped the week of the wedding."
The couple had a mini-moon after their big day which went down a treat! "Straight after the wedding we stayed in Wicklow and had a two-night spa break which was very much needed. We then went to Donegal, and from there, over to Belfast and we had a fabulous time."
