Imagine being invited to an engagement party to discover that, in actual fact, you’re attending a pop-up wedding in a polytunnel! Well, that's exactly the surprise that real wedding couple Aisling and Forbes's guests received, when the pair tied the knot in Aisling's parents polytunnel in Clonakilty! Not your usual ceremony venue but it was the perfect spot for this nature-loving couple's rustic celebration. The day’s vibe was minimalist, super-relaxed and informal, and mixes in the best parts of a wedding – the love, the family, the ceremony – in such an intimate and unexpected way. The amazing images by Lorna Jane Photography did a wonderful job of capturing the bohemian simplicity of the day. Are you ready to take a look for yourself at this inspiring polytunnel wedding? Let's go!
The couple tell us they met when Aisling's sister took her for coffee in the picturesque Glengarriff where she was introduced to the owner, Forbes. "The interaction between us was a little flirtatious, but was left at just that. A few years later, Forbes sent me a message asking if I would like to 'grab a coffee' sometime. A week later we were on our first date and haven’t left each other’s sides since."
The proposal came while on Aisling's birthday while on a walk in Glengarriff with the boys and their dog, Polar. Aisling tells us, "Whenever we reach the top, we all sit on a particular rock and watch the bay. Sat between the mountains and the wild Atlantic, this is our favourite spot to just take a moment." On that day, Forbes took a knee and popped the question and of course Aisling said yes, after squealing 'are you serious?' first!
The couple had been planning an engagement party for quite awhile but what their guests didn't know, was that the engagement party was a surprise wedding! Aisling tells us, "As all of our loved ones would be under one roof anyway, why not surprise them? Closer to the date, we informed guests that the “party” was going to be quite fancy and to dress up for the occasion."
The beautiful signage on the day was created by the brides Sister-in-Law Triona.
In the months leading up to the wedding the couple harvested all the pampas grass they could get their hands on and dried it by the stove so that they could make their own DIY dried bouquets, decor and wreaths.
While guests waited in the poly tunnel, Aisling's dad picked up the bride in a forklift! Aisling fills us in on the unique choice of transport! "You see, he has always had a forklift company and my earliest memories are sitting on his lap while “driving” the forklifts. The roars of laughter when everyone saw us rock up to the ceremony in the forklift was hilarious and set the tone!"
Surrounded by family and friends, their unforgettable ceremony took place in Aisling's parent's polytunnel and a warm and cosy reception in the house followed.
The polytunnel was a new build and didn't have any plants put in yet. There was also a wooden floor created inside and festoon lights hung all around for the dancing later into the wee hours! We bet it looked magical!
When it came to the vibe of the day, the couple said the atmosphere they wanted to create for their wedding was "ethereal and bohemian," and we think they've nailed it! "Forbes and I aren’t exactly the traditional type and wanted to make our day radiant how we like to live."
These sweet one-tier cakes by Diva Bakes were just perfect for the relaxed, rustic celebration!
There was plenty of fun to be had and of course, no Irish wedding would be complete without a little rain!
This couple also love nature and that was an integral part of the day; "lots of laughter, love, dogs running around, children playing and elements of nature." Aisling says, "it rained from the heavens that day, yet not once did it dampen our mood."
Aisling's advice for anyone getting married is to take a few moments to yourself before the ceremony begins. "There is so much involved in a wedding and it’s all go, go, go. When you’re dressed and ready, pause and take a moment to reflect on all that has been going on and all that is about to begin."
We love this final piece from the bride, and the photo to go alongside it, "I have this one special, storytelling photo of my wedding dress. It’s of the morning after and my dress is hanging with my boots stood underneath and the amount of muck tells a tale of its own. No words needed. That photo was what we used to announce the wedding on social media and needless to say, it’s the most “liked” photo yet."
A huge thank you to the lovely Aisling and Forbes for sharing their magical polytunnel wedding day with us! A massive thank you also goes to Lorna Jane Photography for these stunning images! There are more beautiful images for you to swoon over in the gallery below.
