Every couple of years, a real wedding lands in our inbox that's so breathtakingly epic, we can't fit all the gorgeous style and pretty details into a single post. Today, we're delighted to bring you one of those rare and wonderful two-parters, and when I say that this is a beautiful wedding, I mean that it's so beautiful I spoke exclusively in expletives when I first laid eyes on it! American bride Shauna and Irish groom Barry planned their big day at The Lodge at Ashford Castle down to the tiniest detail, and the result is nothing short of astonishing. There's a lot of fawning to be done over the photographs by Craig and Eva Sanders, so let's get cracking!
Our first point of swoon is this pretty stationery suite by Keady Row. I can totally can see the muted shade of fuchsia that Shauna and Barry chose for their menus sparking a wedding colour trend!
Barry tells us that he met Shauna at college in NUI Galway. "She was over from California on Erasmus and I wooed her with my Irish charm. I decided to follow her back to Los Angeles for the summer on a J1, where we lived together and got to know each other a lot better. I knew she was the one when I asked her to spend Christmas with my family and I in Ireland."
The pair had a long-distance relationship for a while, but pretty soon, Barry took the plunge and moved to Los Angeles. "After living there for a year, we decided to relocate to London, spending five great years there. We now live in Ireland where I run a family business and Shauna works in finance."
I'm just a little bit in awe of this Marchesa wedding gown from Browns Bride in London, which Shauna accessorised with the iconic Hangisi heels from Manolo Blahnik in the softest shade of baby pink.
Fluffy slippers, lace-trimmed robes and a morning of non-stop LOLs? I would definitely volunteer for this bridal party!
You know you've got a friend for life when the dress she chooses for you is just as gorgeous as the one she's picked for herself! This show-stopping bridesmaids dress is by Reformation.
Is it just me, or does Shauna look just like Meghan Markle in these portraits? Coming from a dyed-in-the-wool Meghan and Harry fan, that's a huge compliment!
The finished look is just so effortless - Shauna is giving us modern Princess vibes!
I'm living for the elegant, antiquey colours in Shauna's bouquet. Garden roses never looked so good!
Barry put together a box of goodies for his groomsmen, including colourful socks, a personalised hip flask and some cufflinks! He certainly knows how to spoil his pals!
Are doggie wedding corsages a thing? They are now!
It looks like the lads had a little bit of trouble getting this gorgeous vintage Austin on the road, but don't worry, they managed to get to the church on time!
Bunches of greenery are a really easy way to brighten up a church for a ceremony, and allows for more of the floral budget to be assigned to elements that will be seen all day long, like the bride's bouquet!
Barry tells us that the wedding was all about bringing two communities together. "Shauna doesn't get to see her family as often because they're in the States, and most hadn't had a chance to meet my side of the family before the wedding weekend. Being able to bring our friends that we had accumulated from living in California, London and Dublin together was amazing. It just felt like the most amazing reunion."
We mustn't forget about Barry's proposal - it was like something out of a Richard Curtis rom com! "We were living in London at the time and it was Christmas," he says. "Shauna went back to the States to spend it with her family and I went back to Ireland to spend it with mine. I knew I was going to propose at this stage and decided to go to my Aunt Claire to pick out a ring - she and her husband John own Diamonds & Gold Ireland."
Once he'd sourced the ring, Barry was ready to put his plan into action! "Shauna was flying back to Ireland to spend New Year's with my family and I was due to collect her at Shannon Airport the day before. As I needed a bit of Dutch courage, my father drove me down with the ring in one hand and a handmade sign in the other."
I'm sure you can guess what the sign said! "With Shauna being the last one off the plane, a small crowd had gathered. A young girl spotted the sign prompting everyone to wait!"
OK, sounds like a full-on Love, Actually moment! "As Shauna walked out, I got on one knee and pointed the sign in her direction. It took her few seconds to realise what was going on but we got there in end with a round of applause by my crowd of supporters!"
But Barry's plan didn't stop there! "Shauna had to put the ring back in the box as I had organised a New Year's Eve party for all my friends and family, where I was going to surprise them with the news. Shortly before midnight, I gathered everyone into the living room by telling them Shauna's family had made us a short video message. With all eyes on the screen, I pressed play on a clip of myself proposing to Shauna at the airport (filmed by my father, Ger!) There was silence for a few seconds, and then screams of joy. And Shauna could now put the ring back on!"
One of our favourite things about Shauna and Barry's big day is how stylish the guests are! These guys are giving us a month's worth of wedding guest outift inspo!
We've got so much more to show you from this incredible wedding so make sure to check out Part Two here! We also have to say a huge thanks to Shauna and Barry for giving us a peek at their big day, and to Craig and Eva Sanders Photography for sharing the photographs.
