When it comes to pre-wedding beauty, we're all about treating the issues that could affect your confidence on the big day, and one that we're often asked about is hyperpigmentation. Whether it's the result of acne scars, sun exposure, rosacea, melasma, or pregnancy, hyperpigmentation can get in the way of achieving a natural, glowy bridal beauty look. The good news is that hyperpigmentation responds well to treatment, and the medical skincare experts at Eucerin have got just the thing, an Anti-Pigment range that sets new standards for treating unwanted marks.
But First, What is Hyperpigmentation?
There are three kinds of hyperpigmentation:
Pigment Spots: such as sunspots are caused by sun exposure. For this reason, they appear mainly on body parts that are frequently exposed such as the face, neck, décolleté, hands and arms.
Melasma: Also known as chloasma, melasma is a condition where larger patches of hyperpigmentation develop mainly on the face. Although it can affect both men and women, melasma is most common in women and is thought to be triggered by changes in hormone levels. This is particularly common during pregnancy with melasma occurring in 10 to 15% of pregnant women and in 10 to 25% of women taking oral contraceptives.
Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation: This occurs when a skin injury or trauma heals and leaves a flat area of discolouration behind. It’s commonly found among acne sufferers and can also be caused by cosmetic procedures such as dermabrasion, laser treatment and chemical peels.
Eucerin's Anti-Pigment Range: How it Works
The exclusive active ingredient of Eucerin’s Anti-Pigment range, Thiamidol, acts directly to reduce melanin production in the skin – the root cause of hyperpigmentation. It works by blocking the enzyme, tyrosinase, which is known to increase the production of melanin. Of 50,000 substances tested in the Beiersdorf laboratories, Thiamidol was by far the most effective agent and set new standards in reducing the signs of hyperpigmentation. The first results are visible after just two weeks of application, with continued improvement demonstrated over 12 weeks.
Now, let's take a closer look at the five products in Eucerin's Anti-Pigment range;
The Eucerin Anti-Pigment Dual Serum combines patented Thiamidol with a formula with concentrated short and long-chain hyaluronic acid in an innovative double chamber system, delivering significant improvements to hyperpigmentation, reducing roughness and increasing skin radiance.
The Eucerin Anti-Pigment Day Cream offers sun protection Factor 30, while Eucerin's Anti-Pigment Night Cream supports skin cell renewal overnight with Dexpanthenol.
The Eucerin Anti-Pigment Spot Corrector allows targeted application to specific areas of hyperpigmentation, and Eucerin Sun Fluid Pigment Control SPF 50+ is a light textured, non-greasy facial sunscreen enriched with Thiamidol to help prevent sun-induced hyperpigmentation and, with regular use visibly reduce existing dark spots. This formula combines broadband and photostable UVA/UVB filters for very high UV protection, with Licochalcone A to neutralise free radicals caused by UV and HEVIS light and Glycyrrhetinic Acid to help support skin’s own DNA repair mechanism. Suitable for everyday use under make-up, and on all skin types – even sensitive skin.
