We love to see a bride wearing an heirloom wedding dress here at One Fab Day! Over the years, we've shared lots of real weddings featuring extra special, sentimental wedding dresses - our favourites include real bride Michelle, who wore her mother's dress, and real bride Maureen, whose grandmother hand-crocheted her wedding dress, originally for her mother's wedding decades before! So, when we spotted this story about a real bride who wore her grandmother's wedding dress on the big day, we knew we had to share the gorgeous imagery by Keptya Photography!
When real bride Allie from Massachusetts got engaged to long-time love Timmy, she knew exactly which dress she was going to wear on the big day - the one that her grandmother, Anne, had worn to wed her grandfather back in 1961. Allie had stumbled upon it in her grandmother's basement as a teenager. Allie remembers, "She stored it in an old bag because she didn't think it was anything 'special.' But to me, it was."
How gorgeous is this first look with Allie, her grandmother, and her Dad?! As it happens, Anne's beautiful, lace wedding dress didn't need any altering, just a clean, before Allie could wear it up the aisle. "My grandma couldn't believe she was the same size as me," Allie says. "I definitely think the dress has brought us even closer together." The dress was extra meaningful for Allie, as it connected her to her grandfather, who she never met. Allie's grandparents were married for 38 years. "They had a successful, long and happy marriage," Allie says. "So it felt like the dress paved the way for my marriage."
Of course, we had to find out how Anne reacted to seeing her granddaughter in her heirloom wedding dress from 60 years before! "She was tearing up when she saw me for the first time on my big day," Allie says. "It was an incredible moment that I will treasure forever." We've got to say a huge thank you to Allie and Tim, and to Keptya Photography for sharing these dreamy images. There are even more to swoon over in the gallery below!
