Continuing our Groom Week on OneFabDay today we're thinking it's time to get funky with the boys, we found them proper grown up wedding suits yesterday, today we're going to liven up their wedding wear with some gorgeous headgear - that's right it's Groom Hat Ideas.
It might sound a little out there, a little outrageous, but why should the bride be the only one to shine on the wedding day, it's the groom's big day too, and he should be allowed to show a bit of originality and some of his personal style, and what cooler way is there to make a statement than with a trilby, top hat or stetson?
If you don't believe us, just check out our beloved dashing groom Rueben...
Top Hats don't just have to be worn with morning dress, it's rarely seen in Ireland these days (my dad wore a morning suit, can you believe it?! If you could see the state of him now!). Rueben demonstrates that a top hat can liven up the most casual of attire, all you need is attitude. You can find Top Hats at Hackett as well as some great vintage finds on Etsy and Ebay.
It's hard for an Irishman to pull off a Flat Cap without coming off as either Jackie Healy Rae or John Wayne in The Quiet Man, but teamed with a casual suit, or braces like this lad, it can really work. It just requires about 17 second opinions (none of which should be any of your parents, they just won't get it). For classic flat caps it has to be Magees, or the world-famous Hannas of Donegal and also check out Barbour while you're at it.
A look sported by many's the hipster/metro man in recent times has been the Trilby, so I this is probably the most easy style of hat for a groom to pull off without eliciting some strange looks.
For felt trilbys and homburgs, then master milliner John Shevlin is your best bet, Next also have some nice styles as do the Galway Hat Shop. Straw Trilbys can be found half price in Debenhams and at ASOS also on sale!
The difference between the trilby and fedora is quite technical, and probably something most of us aren't going to notice, so suffice to say there's a style out there to suit any groom. Fedora Hats can be found at ASOS as well as Village Hats.
For a sophisticated individual who wants to add a hint of old colonial to his wedding look, what about a Panama hat for a groom? I know our balmy summer days are just perfectly suited to the Man from Delmonte look! Ah seriously, it's a very slick look for a summer wedding, especially by the seaside. For a genuine panama hat look no further than The Panama Hat Co. they also can be found at Mr. Porter.
Have I ever told you that Mr Naoise-to-be (aka Ronan) is a student at Oxford? No, I didn't snatch him from the cradle, he's doing a D.Phil (that's a Phd in the rest of the world) and is back at college. Anyway, his being over there has meant lots of sunny summer days punting down the river Cherwell, sipping champers wearing a... Boater! They are the most fun hat, though perhaps for only for the most What-Ho! of grooms. Straw boaters can be found on sale at urban outfitters at the moment and also try Hats & Caps for a wide selection.
Or maybe your man is more of a Garth Brooks wannabe? His wedding day is the perfect day to sport a Stetson so! For an autentic Stetson try hatshopping.com.
