As our groom Pete is originally from America, he and Louise decided to elope and have their intimate ceremony alone in the USA. Once they said their I dos they then returned to Ireland for a sweet and simple wedding reception at Glasson Country House Hotel with 80 of their nearest and dearest. An utterly charming couple, it's a pleasure to share Louise and Pete's wedding by Siobhan H Photography with you today...
Originally from America Pete moved to Ireland in 2013, and met his future wife Louise. Louise tells their tale..."We met online through a dating website (not Tinder!) We chatted for a while and then had our first date on 8th December at ‘777’ in Dublin. He was the perfect gentleman, and we had a wonderful first date with lots to chat about. We were slow burners and took our time over the next few dates. We finally ‘sealed it with a kiss’ after date 3, over wine and tapas in Fallon & Byrne towards the end of December. We were always so happy to be together, things just felt right and it wasn’t long before we knew this was ‘different from the rest’ and we fell head over heels in love with one another. We moved in together after 6 months and even before then we knew this was going to be for keeps."
Charmed by the lovely Louise, Pete surprised her with a proposal close to her family home. Louise remembers..."Pete knows me better than anyone, and knew that a public proposal or anything too over the top would be my worst nightmare. He played it very cool. I didn’t even know he’d bought the ring! I found out later that he’d asked my Mum’s permission a few months earlier too....! We were in my hometown of Templemore, in my parent’s house for Christmas. It was Christmas Eve and we’d just arrived and stuffed ourselves with homecooked food, so fancied a walk. Pete was walking beside me- on icy roads with his hands in his pockets and I’d been getting on his case about it - worried he was going to slip and fall. He kept refusing to take his hands out of his pockets, and after a slightly ridiculous argument about it I let it drop and we walked on..."
Louise continues..."I remember hearing him calling my name, and turned around to see him on his knees – pale faced with worry! Turns out he had his hands glued to his pockets trying to not lose the ring. He asked the question, and got his answer and then we went straight back to my mum’s house to tell the family. We stopped on the way back to visit my father’s grave and to tell him first. My Dad died in September 2012, and Pete knew how important he was in my life, so knew the only place I would want to be for that kind of a huge life event would be near my family. He bought the ring at Weirs jewellers on Grafton St and it is just what I would have chosen myself – he couldn’t have gotten it more right."
Splitting their wedding in two Louise and Pete decided to officially marry in Sa Francisco, and then have their wedding reception back in Ireland. As a nod to their state side ceremony Louise and Pete than had a subtle San Francisco theme. Louise describes the reception..."It was wonderful to celebrate our marriage with our nearest and dearest and we were blown away especially by friends and family who travelled from around the world to be with us. Very humbling and overwhelming. We intentionally kept the styling of the day around the San Francisco vibe. Our thoughts on it were, ‘we couldn't bring you all with us, so we brought a little bit of it to you’ The invitations, cake and many decorative elements were ‘gold’ in a nod to the Golden Gate Bridge. The table names and table plan were based of famous streets and places in San Francisco and music name checking the city was played throughout."
Keeping everything else super simple Louise and Pete had no bridesmaids, a homemade wedding cake (made by Louise's mum) and Louise even rented her fabulous wedding dress and made her own birdcage veil.
A huge congratulations to you both and thanks so much for sharing your wedding day with us all! A big thank you also goes to Siobhan H Photography for sharing her work with us. To see more from Siobhan H Photography visit www.siobhanhennessy.com
