Celebrate the Love: Sinead & Dermot's Mount Druid Wedding

Gorgeous style and fun ideas

The bride and groom in today's real wedding are the sweetest! Sinead and Dermot are a Dublin couple who wanted their friends and family to experience a fun, laid-back, non-traditional wedding. They got the perfect backdrop with Mount Druid; a variety of spaces, a natural setting, cool vintage decor, and glamping for their guests. Sounds like our kind of bash! Bronté Photography expertly captured all the love and every last gorgeous details.

The couple met at Dublin student haunt, Redz over 13 years ago. “It was Halloween and everyone was dressed up. Dermot was Disco Stew and I a devil,” recalls Sinead. “We got chatting before I left with friends. A few weeks later we bumped into each other again, at the same club.”

On their second encounter, Sinead’s handbag had been stolen, but Dermot made sure she was looked after, “Dermot offered to buy the ‘devil and drink’ and that was it! He made sure I had taxi fare home with my friends and wrote his number with an eye liner pencil on a receipt. A complete gentlemen.”

What a cute welcome! "Our dog Venice couldn’t make the trip to the wedding, however we made sure we had a canvas printed at the bottom of the aisle with a photo of her to greet guests on arrival," Sinead tells us. "P.S. the Mount Druid owners’ dog Piddles played a good stand in dog.”

Bubbles make a great alternative for confetti!

The bride and groom got their gorgeous nieces and nephews involved in the celebrations, “Éabha, Sadhbh and Tomás, they were fabulous.”

Sinead's mam walked her up the aisle - isn't she gorgeous, I love the billowing sleeves on her blue dress!

Dermot caught Sinead off-guard with a proposal on Bull Island in Dublin. “Dermot suggested a walk just like most weekends, off we went and I never thought anything different,” says Sinead. “We had just agreed on our first home and had all our savings accounted for. Dermot got down on one knee as I looked on in shock. It was magical. I asked Dermot how he knew to propose at the Poolbeg chimneys and he simply said that they are a symbol of us. Still standing together in the middle of Dublin City.” Ah here, now we’re crying!

Going above and beyond, Dermot asked Sinead’s mam for her hand in marriage before over afternoon tea in the Westbury Hotel, “My Dad passed away when I was very young and he knew this would be very special for me and my mam. We went home to meet all our family who had arranged a party in our family home. It was magical and special.”

The couple planned their wedding with their laid back personalities in mind, “We love our families to come to our home and have food and drinks and feel at home. We knew we wanted our day to feel like this. And Mount Druid is the perfect venue.”

Fist bump!

The team at Mount Druid got the couple excited about their day, “The venue has a beautiful décor and reflects our taste in our own home. It was genuinely was the lovely people at Mount Druid that made the venue an easy venue to pick. The laid-back approach to a wedding by saying it’s a big party is exactly what you need to hear. The family who run the venue have a genuine love at making the venue your own for the entire stay.”

Sinead wore a gorgeous gown by Katya Katya Shehurina from Vintage Pearl Bridal - the lace detailing and embellished belt are so pretty. I'm also a little bit obsessed with her luxurious flower crown and beautiful bouquet.

Dermot and Sinead loved using the different areas of venue for all the elements of their day, “The tin chapel is stunning and the grounds around it are natural and calming. The boat house for our drinks reception and where we had our speeches has the most amazing views. The barn itself has the most quirky pieces and a great space to dance the night away.”

Sinead's bridesmaids wore beautiful mix and match dresses in grey - the embellishment and texture give them a really unique feel.

These two were eager for their family and friends to have a different experience to a traditional hotel wedding, “We wanted to be surrounded by nature and create a loving atmosphere. We put our energy into making sure our food and drinks were flowing. We also knew our friends would love the glamping and fun of staying on the grounds of Mount Druid.”

Who's for ice-cream?

Looks like the guests started dancing early - always a sign of a good wedding!

When it comes to who gives a speech at a wedding - couples should consider everyone in the family!

The couple tell us that their day was made all the more special by the people around them, “The understanding and offers of help in the run-up to the day was overwhelming. We had family members so excited about the choice in venue and the idea of glamping which made it even more exciting for us.”

The pair had lots of help from their siblings, parents and pals. “Our bridal group planned the best stag and hen. There was a surprise arrival of the Sam Maguire Cup to the Tin Chapel. My mam made our ring cushion and sewed our initials and the date of the wedding into it. This was so special and something we can hand onto the next generations,” Sinead explains. “Dermot’s mam and dad helped with all the little details and we were so chuffed as Dermot’s mam had been sick all year after having chemo treatment. We were so happy to have all our family safe and well as we exchange our vows.”

This couple have a few words of wisdom to help other couples enjoy their planning. “People don’t notice favours or how long you spent fixing the sweet table. Family and friends just want to be there as you both say your vows together and to celebrate the love. Take a deep breathe and enjoy the day. Eat, drink and dance all night! It is truly the best feeling when you turn around at the top of the aisle and are announced as husband and wife.”

The couple incorporated the countryside setting into their wedding stationery.

Sinead tells us about the couple’s honeymoon in Florida and New York. “I’d booked to see U2 in Madison Square Gardens as a wedding gift for Dermot. We firstly spent time in Florida visiting all the fun parks and enjoying some Denny’s breakfasts before meeting Mickey and Minnie in Disney World. In New York we went for afternoon tea in the Plaza Hotel and a carriage ride in Central Park something we would never forget.”

For their honeymoon, these two switched up their typical self-planned excursions and recruited someone else to plan the trip. “We used Tour America who were so helpful. They organised the trip and insured all aspects were covered. So much easier and less stressful when organising a wedding.”

What a beautiful cake - these two included their guests' favourite sweets in their candy table, such a thoughtful idea!

Where it all began!

It's always a good idea to have some activities on stand-by for the little ones!

What a stunner!

I'm just in love with this pair and their wedding! Thanks so much to Sinead and Dermot for sharing your day with us, and to Bronté Photography for capturing it so beautifully.
