Unfortunately on any wedding day, the weather is one element we cannot control. When our real wedding couple, Ger and Lesley planned their July back garden wedding at their home in Co. Meath, they knew they were taking a chance on the Irish weather and while there may have been a downpour, but it was only a drizzle compared to the outpouring of love at this gorgeous celebration! Laura Faherty captured all the magic, so sit back and enjoy the gorgeous selection of images below.
She shoots, she scores! Lesley and Ger met nine years ago on the football pitch and let's just say, they are serious couple goals - pardon the pun! Inseparable ever since, it was Christmas Eve in 2018 in their beautiful home when Ger got down on one knee and asked Lesley to be her forever love.
When planning their back garden tipi wedding, the biggest priority was to ensure everyone felt relaxed in their home! They explain: "We wanted no notions, just absolute fun and celebrations with everyone. From the very beginning we fell in love with the tipi wedding idea, and Pete the main man from Tipi Faoi Na Réaltaà was so relaxed and reassuring. From the first time, we met him our hearts were set. The whole week of the wedding the hard work and perfection they gave for us were second to none!"
The lovebirds chose Stand By Me to walk up the aisle for a powerful reason: "This song just meant so much to us, especially as a same sex couple. Things can be a lot more challenging and sometimes people are not as accepting and that's okay. We felt this song reminded us of all the hard times and how we made it through them together and stood by each other," they say.
Lesley and Ger were so proud to showcase the beautiful home they made together and to share it with their loved ones on one of the biggest days of their lives. "I really think having it in our home, which we built together in the most supportive loving community just made it that extra little bit more special. If it wasn't for everyone giving us love and support, we wouldn't be together."
Our couple chose bridal styles that compliment one another magnificently. Lesley wore a striking and Rime Arodaky sheer-sleeved jumpsuit, adorned in embellished florals that melt into an awe-worthy train. Ger opted for a boho-style lace embroidered wedding gown featuring divine detail and detachable sleeves. The bridal bouquets were bursting with blush pink roses, an assortment of foliage, all tied together by a pastel pink and sage green ribbons.
The aesthetic of the tipi day mixed rustic elements with boho touches! Hay bales, pampas grass and romantic pink touches created a back garden wedding that was anything but ordinary. Of course there were creative DIY touches too - centrepieces made from old liquor bottles and a table plan made from a wooden palette - very clever!
Once the ladies finished capturing their wedding portraits, they kicked off the evening celebrations with an epic outfit change! Ger swapped her jumpsuit into a dress, while Lesley ditched her dress for a jumpsuit. We couldn't love this more.
Simply The Best featuring Noah Reid from Schitt's Creek was the soundtrack to the newlywed's first dance. As for advice, the couple say: "Enjoy every second, it is so special and full of love. Don’t sweat the big stuff, it all falls into place! Our biggest worry was the weather due to the type of wedding we were planning - it rained all day. Once you see your partner on that day nothing else matters. We danced in the rain, we didn't care and had the best day of our lives!"
Their drool-worthy buttercream wedding cake had a whopping six layers, showcasing each colour of the rainbow. Simple, yet full of meaning.
The celebrations didn't end just there - the honeymoon came next as they jetted off to the idyllic Italian destination of Sirmione in Lake Garda for a week-long mini moo that was "out of this world and so so romantic!"
A very special thank you to our lovely couple and photographer Laura Faherty for sharing this inspirational tipi wedding day with us at One Fab Day.
