The couple in today's real wedding, Mary Eve and Edmond, are already an established family, so their big day was all about making it official, celebrating with their two little girls, and enjoying a laid-back, foodie bash with their friends and family. The couple knew instantly that Horetown House was the perfect spot for their fuss-free wedding, with a personal outdoor ceremony, drinks in the sunshine and a fun, rustic reception. Lee & Edyta of Wexford Wedding Photos documented the day beautifully, and we can wait for you to read all the details behind their gorgeous wedding.
Mary Eve and Edmond met, like so many great love stories, in their local nightclub in Dungarvan one Christmas, “He wrote his number in permanent marker on my arm so I texted it the next day and we started a two year relationship from there,” recalls Mary Eve.
But alas, they went their separate ways for a while, “Edmond headed off to New Zealand and Australia during the recession and I had just started college in Cork, so our timings were a bit off but we rekindled in the very same nightclub in 2013 when I was back on holidays from Australia and he was living at home and the rest is history really. Little did we know back then how permanent it would be!”
Mary Eve describes the proposal as a bit of a “what could go wrong, did go wrong” moment. “The intentions were there but I ruined it myself,” she tells us. “We were on holidays in Verona with our daughter Hannah, visiting my best friend and her son over there. We took the kids swimming which was a good bit outside the city and we decided to walk home. Before I left, Ed asked me to ask Sarah to babysit Hannah that night as he wanted to go out, but the kids were tired and cranky by the time we had finished, so I said I wouldn’t bother.”
On their last day, despite Mary Eve feeling under the weather, and the weather having turned to torrential rain, Ed persuaded her to go for dinner at a restaurant across from Juliet’s balcony, “The gate used to have love padlocks on it during that time, so he pulled out a padlock and asked me to marry him in the rain in front of a closed gate. Turns out he had originally planned to do it the night before where he had reserved a romantic table under Juliet’s balcony with our own waiter, but we both prefer how it actually turned out! No fuss!”
Having their two daughters, Hannah and Ada by their side made the day extra special for Mary Eve and Ed, “My eldest daughter Hannah actually walked me down the aisle, as I felt it was about us and being our own family as oppose to my dad “giving me away”. The way I looked at it was I was already “gone” for the last five years, the day was just about making it official. That and having all our family and friends there too.”
A ring warming is such a lovely way to include your guests in your ceremony.
The ceremony was a key moment for the bride and groom, “For us, it really was about making our commitment to each other in front of our nearest and dearest and the fact that the sun shone down on us that day made it all the more relaxed and fun and we all got to soak up the beautiful surroundings of Horetown House.”
The bride and groom say their wedding had a ‘no fuss vibe’.“We wanted it to be the most relaxing day for all our guests and ourselves included. Relaxed, boho style and great craic. We were so lucky with the weather on the day.”
Having a day that could be as stress-free as possible was the top priority for this pair, “It is only one day after all and the day goes by so fast, so I was adamant to soak it all in and spend as much time with our guests as possible. This is why I just wanted documentary style photos and Lee went above and beyond in capturing the moment. I didn’t even realise he was there. I also wanted as little stress as possible on the guests so we organised and paid for their transport to and from the venue throughout the day and night which meant it was one less thing for them to worry about.”
We love that Ed went a little bit statement with his Benetti suit - the check blazer and waistcoat gives him a really unique look! And Mary Eve looks so beautiful in her gown, the silhouette is stunning and the embellished pattern is really pretty. It strikes just the right level of laid-back glamour, don't you think?
Mary Eve’s gorgeous bouquet was made by her best friend’s mom, “I loved my bouquet! She has always been a massive part of my childhood and to have her create something beautiful from her garden, which was exactly what I had in mind and hearing how much trouble she went to the night before the wedding, peeling the honesty flower seeds to expose the silver part really shows she went above and beyond for me. She also gave me a tag with every flower and greenery in the bouquet and what it represents which had me in tears… The only tears of the day and happy ones at that!”
Mary Eve says she knew Horetown House was ‘The One’ as soon as she and Ed drove up to see it. “Ed kept saying to me ‘don’t be so obvious’ but you know when you just get the feeling and you can envisage everybody there too, it all just came together. It was the first and only place we viewed back in 2017. Niamh was so welcoming and she got our vision on what we wanted exactly right. Nothing was ever a bother for her and she was a dream to work with.”
This room, with with foliage chandeliers and dropped bulbs overhead, really is so stunning.
The catering was another top ticket item for Mary Eve and Edmond, “There are a lot of foodie people in our families and people always remember the food and the experience at weddings so I wanted to make sure that the food served was more than your chicken mushroom vol au vent kind of menu! I think it was a different wedding for a lot of our guests there that day. We already have two children, so our day was all about family really but also remembering that it is him and I at the end of the day even after the kids are grown up!”
This looks like our kind of sugar laden spread! " We had chocolate sponge cake filled with salted caramel buttercream and chocolate ganache which was decorated with homemade coconut macaroons and peanut butter cookie dough truffles," Mary Eve tells us. "A wedding gift from my aunt, her friend made it."
This couple have some great words of wisdom to pass on, “You can make it as inexpensive or as expensive as you like. It is your day as a couple so make sure you do what suits you. We both came from devout Catholic backgrounds and we were the first ones in our families to do something non-traditional and they all said it was so personal and full of love. They are all still talking about it.”
The couple skipped splurging on a big honeymoon, “We were planning on going to South Africa and do a safari somewhere but then Ada, our second daughter, came along so it was something that has been put on the back burner. We got a night away in Castlemartyr Hotel which was lovely. Maybe when the kids are grown we will have that honeymoon!”
Looks like this one turned into quite the hooley! Thanks so much to Mary Eve and Ed for sharing your day with us, and of course to Wexford Wedding Photos for sending it our way.
