Amanda and Gareth met at a festival (where else?) in 2011, and the story that Amanda recounts is quite brilliant. "I was running around the gloriously muddy fields with my best friend Maura both wearing full length 80s wedding dresses with full veils over our faces so we quite literally bumped headfirst into Gareth and his bandmates who were also en route to the same band. Gareth was also performing at Glastonbury with his own band The Japanese Popstars. A mutual friend of ours Donal was with him, so before we knew it we were all heading to dance about to The Chemical Brothers together. The rest is history. If you hear the story from me that's what you'll get. If you ask Gareth - he'll tell you I was at Glastonbury husband-hunting with a wedding dress on!"
When it came to choosing venues for their wedding there was only one choice for Gareth and Amanda: Ballymagarvey. Amanda explained what drew them to it. "It's dreamy. We wanted the style of the wedding to be glamorous, festival, sparkly, modern, edgy, fun & fabulous AF!" I think it's safe to say that's what they created!
The couple wanted their wedding photos to reflect their life together as a couple and fit the aesthetic of the event "After the wedding venue the two most important vendors to me were the videographer and photographer," Amanda explained. "We did so much research and VowArt and WildThingsWed were the only two that fit our vision and aesthetic: super modern and cool."
Portraits in Dublin were an important element of capturing the day. "I'm a Dublin girl through and through and we love the buzz of Dublin city" Amanda told us, before talking us through their plan "So Gareth and I stayed in the Penthouse in the Iveagh Garden Hotel the night before our wedding. We started our wedding day off getting ready there together and then did our first look just off Harcourt Street. It was so much fun with so many well wishers cheering and clapping for us."
Reflecting their personal style was a huge element in the planning of the day, and both Amanda and Gareth made great efforts in their outfits. Gareth's teal crushed velvet jacket and oversized velvet bow-tie hold up well against the incredible bridal ensemble Amanda put together. In addition to her gorgeous wedding dress, sourced from Northern Ireland, Amanda's outfit included bespoke rings by SaintMae, Dolce & Gabbana shoes, and a handmade Agnes Hart headpiece, with the final last-minute addition of gorgeous earrings by Irish Designer Finu.
Amanda's incredible cape was something she wanted dearly in her outfit, but it almost didn't happen. Amanda recounted what happened, "I sourced the most amazing sparkly silver cape with ostrich feathers online on eBay. I was gutted when they let me down, and never sent it. By stroke of luck - my sisters actually knew someone here in Dublin that owned the same cape and she very kindly loaned it to me for my wedding (thank you Katie for my something borrowed!). Turns out Katie also wore this on her special day too and I was blown away by her kindness."
Gareth and Amanda's wedding took place in late February, just a days before the Covid lockdown was announced, and after days of storms that flooded parts of the country. They're very aware of their luck. "We are so blessed that we managed to get married. It was a crazy way to start married life. But it made us very appreciative of having been able to do it all. Big hugs & kisses goes out to all the Covid Brides that had to reschedule their big day! I'm sure your new date and plans will be even better and more special!"
Huge thanks to Amanda and Gareth for sharing their magnificent wedding with us all. It's a great burst of inspiration during these crazy times. And of course to VowArt for sharing a fabulous wedding film!
