Epic Floral Arches: What you Need to Know
Fallen in love with these gorgeous creations? We asked Kristine from Lovebird Designs, the woman behind the beautiful arch that inspired this post, to help us put together some tips for getting a beautiful floral arch at your wedding...
- Only a professional florist can create this look. This is definitely not a DIY or YouTube tutorial job!
- Floral arches require quite a bit of construction time, so make sure your venue allows your florist access and adequate time to build the arrangements.
- Take the unpredictability of the Irish weather into account when planning your floral arch - if you have a Plan A and Plan B for your ceremony, the arch should work both outdoors and indoors.
- Every florist will have a different fee structure, but roughly speaking, you should set aside around €500 for a simple arch, but the sky's the limit if you want something more elaborate!
- If you're on a seriously tight budget, your florist may be able to create a very basic arch with mostly foliage for closer to €300. There's not a whole lot else you can do to keep costs low, but choosing foliage, seasonal blooms or cheaper filler flowers like carnations (which Kristine tells us are about to make a big comeback!) will certainly help.
- Warm weather is bad news for cut flowers, but unless there's a heatwave on the week of your wedding, you probably don't need to worry. Florists will use more resilient flowers to build arches, and, unless the room is overheated or there's direct sunlight falling on to the arch, it should last at room temperature for a good few hours. Good quality flowers should last two days in an air-conditioned room.
