Before diving into the details of their charming day, let's get to know the happy couple! Florida-born Elizabeth and Chase who is from Ottawa, Canada, were introduced by their mutual friend who ended up being the officiant at their wedding!
The now Belgium-based couple, who moved to Europe to complete their Ph.Ds. in the same university together, got engaged on Christmas Eve. Chase planned an incredibly romantic proposal at the boat house of his family's chalet in Mont Tremblant, Quebec, the same place the couple would eventually exchange their vows, followed by an impressive marquee reception. "Chase is originally from Ottawa but has spent his summers and winters in Mont Tremblant since he was a child. It was his dream to be married there, because it is his ‘happy place’."
Getting married on the grounds of the groom's family chalet in Canada, the couple's wedding colour palette was inspired by the natural landscape of the area - the lakes, mountains and woodlands. "We decided on a whimsical garden affair at the beginning of summer, when the wildflowers are just starting to peak. If you go on a walk in the area, you will find purple and yellow wildflowers in abundance." Complete with ecologically foraged floral arrangements and bouquets, the couple's wedding day took on a natural theme with bride Elizabeth describing the celebration as "a hazy fairytale dream."
Our glowing bride sported a custom-made, one-of-a-kind Linda Frisen gown in a soft shade of purple - Chase's favourite colour. Elizabeth paired her hand-crafted gown with a custom Laura Pour Elle floral bridal headpiece and a blue dragonfly brooch belonging to her grandmother which represented her something borrowed, blue and old. "Almost everything had some special meaning, but it was all in small details, like my mom giving me an antique handkerchief from her wedding day as a gift."
Adding an extra thoughtful touch, Elizabeth attended a perfume making workshop and created a personalised scent to wear on her wedding day, which included notes of fresh-cut grass, pink peppercorn and iris: "Now, whenever I use the perfume, I am instantly transported back to the scenic settings of Tremblant, where I exchanged my vows with my best friend," she says. Incorporating a sentimental element into his own ensemble, our groom Chase wore his father's wedding band. "We left the inscription from his parent’s wedding, with the date and ‘Forever Cathy’. It makes us laugh and smile. It means so much to us."
Following a dreamy first look, the pair's scenic outdoor ceremony took place in the gardens of Chase's family home. Sharing the story of how they met, the mutual friend who originally introduced the couple, acted as officiant on the day and, in a meaningful addition, also helped them write their ceremony.
Elizabeth and Chase had this advice for couples embarking on their own wedding planning journey: "Have fun with it, and try not to take things too seriously. Things will go wrong (oh, so many things…), but just try to roll with the punches and have a laugh if you can. The day will go by regardless (and faster than you would believe), it is better to spend it in a place of gratitude and happiness. The best advice I got before the wedding was to take a moment to look at the ceremony location before everyone gets there. Take it all in. Stamp it in your memory. The day goes by in a whirlwind, so take your moment to remember and appreciate."
Wanting to get their parents a meaningful gift as a thank you on the day, Elizabeth surprised Chase's parents with a live-painter who created a piece of art depicting the couple's breathtaking ceremony spot: "There is a picture of Chase’s mom hearing that the painting will be hers, which is priceless. The final piece now hangs in the entryway of their house, which is so special." The pair gifted the vinyl-loving mother of the bride a customised record with all the important songs of the day on it, including the processional and first-dance music.
Elizabeth and Chase's idyllic evening reception went on to include a first dance on the grass - which their wedding planner warned may not be the best idea: "We laugh about it now, but I couldn’t dance in my dress and shoes in the grass." The couple rounded out their celebrating with a well-deserved honeymoon to the Bahamas: "I would recommend planning your honeymoon right after your wedding if you can. We waited because it didn’t work out for us to go after... Although it was great to spend time with everyone who stayed on, we were so tired and needed a break after all the excitement of the wedding festivities."
