Black Feathers and Long Stem Roses: Clara & Ollie's Monochrome Ballymagarvey Wedding

Simple, sophisticated, show-stopping style!

Today's real wedding proves how utterly magical a black and white palette can be. Dublin-based couple Clara and Ollie crossed the border into the Royal County for a celebration of exceptional style at Ballymagarvey Village. 120 of their loved ones joined them for their wonderful big day which featured long stem roses, bridesmaids in black, a refined reception with a sparkling edge and a white and cream palette, and an uber-chic vintage-inspired wedding cake. Prepare to be blown away with the elegance of Clara's bridal wardrobe too. Weddings by Jason captured all the magic and every heartfelt moment of their stunning winter wedding. Check it out below.

Clara is from Cork and Ollie is from Middlesbrough in the UK. The couple fills us in on how they met, "Ollie and Clara have been together for about 7 years. They used to work together and met while Ollie was working in Dublin for a few months from the UK. They finally got talking at the work Christmas party and a few months later Ollie decided to take the plunge and move to Dublin full time."

Ollie picked an awe-inspiring location to pop the all-important question. "On a trip to Berlin in December 2022, Ollie surprised Clara with a beautiful engagement ring and a proposal at the Brandenburg Gate!" With guests travelling from around the world to join them in their celebrations, finding a breathtaking wedding venue that had an easy-going vibe was essential for the couple.

"We wanted to have a day that felt relaxed, fun and enjoyable. We had family and friends travelling from Cork, Middlesbrough, London, San Francisco, and Dubai. We wanted somewhere that was easy for everyone to get to, and that would allow everyone to relax and unwind to really enjoy the day."

They were immediately enchanted by the luxurious and romantic surrounds of Ballymagarvey Village. "It felt like a home away from home the minute we visited the venue and knew it would create the right relaxed atmosphere for our wedding. Most of our guests were able to stay onsite so from the time they arrived at 2pm on the day of the wedding until they checked out the next day at 12pm, felt like a real party and celebration."

The couple dreamed of a wedding day that was utterly timeless with a black and white colour palette. "We did not want to overcomplicate things with too many decorations, flowers, favours and so on. We really allowed the venue and setting to speak for itself." Her bridesmaids looked sensational in black midi dresses with feather necklines.

Glowing bride Clara exuded sophistication and grace in a square-neck bodice gown by Chosen by Kyha which had a flowing skirt and a thigh-high split. She accessorised with Jimmy Choo satin pumps with crystal-embellished straps and pearl drop earrings. Suave groom Ollie opted for a timeless black tuxedo.

They picked two immensely romantic ceremony readings. Ollie's dad read The Wonders of Today by Larry Chengges and On Your Wedding Day which was read by Clara's sister.

Clara opted for bouquets of long stemmed roses which were tied with black velvet bows. It's a minimal floral trend we adore that feels romantic and effortless and adds a hint of drama.

The couple's reception in the rustic banquet hall was a demure and dazzling affair with sparkling foliage and tablescape palette of white and cream.

"Our whole wedding day was so special, from the morning getting ready with our family and friends, to walking down the aisle, to our banquet hall entrance and our dancing which went on until 4am. It all felt like a wedding we had really put our own stamp on."

They have the following advice for couples planning their big day, "Everyone says this and it's hard to really understand it, but the time goes by so quickly. Savour every minute and ensure that you’re only spending time doing things you enjoy and want to do, both on the day and in the run up to the big day."

Vintage-inspired buttercream Lambeth wedding cakes have been rising in serious popularity and the couple jumped on the kitschy and oh-so-cute trend. Clara didn't wear only one epically elegant wedding dresses, she changed into a short wedding dress with a statement train after the reception which she paired with satin opera gloves.

They chose the party-starting Can't Take My Eyes Off You by Andy Williams as their first dance song. They kept the celebrations going with a Day Two at the Village Inn in Slane. "We loved this as it really allowed us to extend our celebrations and we couldn't have picked a better place to do this. Wayne and the team at the Village Inn really looked after us."

As for their honeymoon, the couple jetted off to the Maldives straight after the wedding. "We couldn't recommend it enough. It was the perfect place to unwind, debrief and reminisce on our beautiful wedding weekend."

A huge congratulations and thank you to Clara and Ollie for sharing their magical Ballymagarvey Village wedding with One Fab Day and to Weddings by Jason for the utterly exquisite photos. You can see even more in the gallery below.
