Not many of us can say we've ended up with our very first boyfriend or girlfriend, but for childhood sweethearts Sharon and Graham that's the case. Together for as long as the other can remember, they tied the knot in an elegant pastel affair, under a blazing summer sun. There was no theme. - they just wanted to simply be themselves. If you love all things pretty, you're in for a treat! The end result was captured beautifully by Tanya at Eden Photography.
Sharon and Graham originally met one summer down by the seafront, when Sharon was just 14. Soon after Graham became her very first boyfriend, only for the summer romance to end once school days came back around. Two years later (almost to the day) Sharon and Graham crossed paths again, and this time it was for keeps.
14 years later Graham began plotting a proposal. Sharon explains "We had arranged a trip with my brother and his partner to Roscommon. We had a heavy night on the Saturday and I was slow moving the next morning....He wanted to bring me to the ruins of the old Roscommon abbey and I wasn’t overly cooperative. Eventually we got there and Graham said he wanted to take my picture. But as he went to take out his camera, he took out a box instead and down he went on one knee. First of all he gave me his Grandmother’s ring, which she had passed on to him and after that presented me with a proposal ring so now I have three beautiful rings reminding me of my engagement! Everyone says “ you must have seen it coming after that long” but I really didn’t. I panicked a little and forgot to give an answer – but I eventually said yes! Apparently he had gone to my parents and my brother and sister (I’m the baby by 11 years) for their permission, which I loved!"
How adorable is Sharon's dad?! (In case you can't see that little sign it's a teeny tiny "here comes the bride" sign, too cute altogether.)
Sharon and Graham opted for a humanist ceremony in Ballymagarvey's mill loft with officiant Emma Sides - a part of the day they adored. "We loved sitting facing our guests as we felt they were really a part of the whole experience. We brought in a ring blessing whereby our rings were passed around and held by all our guests so that they could pass on their good wishes and we even had a bell ringing ceremony whereby the bell calls a truce and calls you to remember your wedding day."
Knowing that Ballymagarvey was home to a cute little wishing well, Sharon and Graham included old Irish pennies with their save the dates and instructed guests to bring them along on the day to make a wish.
Sharon's classic wedding dress was a Justin Alexander gown with a Sabrina neckline and cowl back with subtle beading on the shoulders. For some extra sparkle Sharon added embellishment to the waist and accessorised with a dainty veil. Sharon's pretty pastel bridesmaid dresses were bought online, in an array of complimentary colours. If you're thinking of going for a few different dresses for your girls be sure to have a look at our How to Mix & Match Bridesmaids' Dresses post.
Blessed with a gorgeous summer day Sharon and Graham spent as much time outdoors as possible. To make sure their guests were happy out in the sun Sharon and Graham made paddle fans and organised a variety of refreshing cocktails in cute jars with little straws and flags.
DIY was important to Sharon and Graham and in the run up to the wedding they both made an effort to add as much personal details as possible. Together they crafted cootie-catcher favours (a trend they both remembered from school!) Each favour had questions on it about Sharon and Graham and inside there was a photo scavenger hunt challenge. The pair also made up a fingerprint tree guestbook. If you'd like your own, download the One Fab Day DIY Fingerprint Tree for free here.
For the reception things were kept classic and elegant with hanging chandeliers, plenty of white and crisp lime-wash chivari chairs.
For their honeymoon Sharon and Graham took a month-long trip, starting in Dubai followed by Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Huge congratulations you two, we wish you a lifetime of happiness!
