Best of Both: Niamh + Adam's Dublin City & Ballymagarvey Village Wedding

From Smock Alley to Ballymagarvey...

Having grown up in Dublin it was important for bride Niamh and groom Adam to marry in their city, but once they visited the luxe Ballymagarvey Village they knew it'd the perfect place for their wedding party. Incorporating the best of both Niamh and Adam said their I dos at Smock Alley, right in the city centre - followed by a chilled, fun filled wedding reception at Ballymagarvey in Co. Meath, all captured by the wonderful Simple Tapestry...

As many Dublin romances go, Niamh and Adam met at the infamous Copper Face Jacks. Niamh fills us in on the details..."We met on the night before the May Bank Holiday in 2009 in Copper Face Jacks. I was entertaining friends over from London and Adam was with his friend Paul (our best man) for a few drinks after they finished working late. Paul distracted my friends while Adam did enough to persuade me to part with my phone number (not my fake one.) A few weeks later we went on a date around Dublin – Bodies Exhibition (Ambassador Theatre), Captain America’s, Dakota and Ukiyo for some sake. A summer romance blossomed and everything just went from there."

To propose Adam brought Niamh to one of her favourite places for a weekend filled with surprises. Niamh remembers..."I studied contemporary dance in London at university and some of my closest friends still remain from there so it’s a place we visit very often and somewhere that means a lot to me. Having managed to have a ring made – the one I wanted – Adam brought us to London as a surprise for my birthday which is on December 22. We got there on the 21st and Adam had arranged to go on a tour of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, given my love of ballet and all things on stage."

Niamh continues..."Afterwards, Adam proposed on the terrace overlooking Covent Garden where I said yes and the manager of the Royal Opera House (in cahoots with Adam) brought us flowers and champagne. We then got some Christmassy celebration shots in front of their giant tree. The following day Adam hired a private capsule on the London Eye for my birthday and invited all my close friends from England and even a few sneaked over from Dublin. It was one surprise after another and it was just an amazing weekend for both of us."

Both proud Dublin dwellers, Niamh and Adam chose to marry in the heart of the city at Smock Alley Theatre. Foregoing tradition they decided on a humanist ceremony with personalised vows, and a careful selection of poems and stories including A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton.

Adding to the emotion and personality of the ceremony, the performance group Niamh organises (Perrystown Performers Society) sang all the ceremony music while one of Niamh's bridesmaid's mums prepared all the ceremony decorations.

Adding some extra charm to their city celebration Niamh and Adam organised a colourful balloon release on the nearby Capel Street Bridge resulting in some beautiful group shots and portraits by Simple Tapestry.

With their I dos said, and city centre portraits complete Niamh, Adam and guests made the short trip to Ballymagarvey Village to continue their wedding party. One of Ireland's favourite wedding venues, Niamh and Adam fell in love with it (and the Ballymagarvey staff) from their very first visit. Niamh and Adam told us..."We were wowed by Ballymagarvey from the minute we drove up to the main house. The welcome and warmth of the staff was genuine and it felt incredible. We knew we would have an amazing day there. Niamh’s dad was with her at the first viewing and he knew instantly that Ballymagarvey was the best place for our celebrations. We knew that we wanted a wedding venue that we would have to ourselves and with Ballymagarvey, we were able to book it for two days – it really felt like a home away from home."

Gorgeous bride Niamh chose a beautiful short, House of Mooshki wedding dress from Frilly Frocks for the day - which worked perfectly for the alternative chilled vibe, and ample dancing later.
