For the week that's in it (official Engagement Week on OFD!) I thought I'd share a few simple ideas for a cute but relatively cheap way to 'Save the Date'. We've done posts on cool and innovative ways to ask your guests to 'Save the Date' in the past but today's ideas are about making your own very simple but effective 'Save the Date' cards with a quirky little twist.
You can hire a photographer to take a shot for a Save the Date and you are sure to get a truly beautiful picture, but it's gonna cost ya. It's worth checking out if any of your friends have a good quality SLR camera to take a shot for you for free. Don't worry, with the ideas below there's no need for a Mario Testino wannabe!
1. Cardboard cut outs Check out this clever Save the Date card using a photo of the couple holding a cardboard cut-out of the wedding date reflected onto a wall by the sun. Loving the heart shaped full stops to add a bit of romance 🙂 DIY at its best! Another idea is to cut out the numbers for your wedding date, string them together and take a stroll through a meadow - voila!
2. Chalk This heart-shaped chalk board is a simple but cute way to communicate the wedding date. Get creative and give more info! And how about introducing your furry friends to add to the cute factor!
3. Scrabble For all the word nerds out there, check out these cool scrabble Save the Dates. Just add an engagement ring. Easy-peasy!
4. Black marker and body parts! Just don't forget to use the non-permanent type, especially if using your face! pssssst.....black liquid eye-liner works a treat!
5. Balloons Create these simply by using a Sharpie marker or by making a stencil of the date, place of your wedding and using spray paint once the balloons are blown up.
6. Paint Rummage through the garage, grab a pot of paint and some old timbers and head for the hills!
7. Shoe and feet Soles!
8. Passport / Photobooth Pics Hop in a photobooth and have fun!
Sending the Save the Date
You have two choices when it comes to sending these Save the Dates...
Post - if you're going to post the cards, the simplest thing to do is get them printed as postcards. There's no need for envelopes, and they'll be much cheaper and easier to do. You can get postcards printed very cheaply online from Printcarrier, Moo, Vistaprint or The Picture Works
Email - Sending a 'Save the Date' in a card or postcard form will be more expensive since you'll have printing and postage costs so it is worth thinking about sending an e-card or the Save the Date card by email to keep the costs down if you're on a budget.
