Over the last couple of years photobooths have become increasingly popular at parties and weddings. They're a fun way to capture photos of your guests letting loose and being goofy - and to keep them busy before or after the meal - whether it's getting wedding photos taken with your mother-in-law or grabbing the last batch of food out of the oven. The key to a great photobooth is a set of props and a cool backdrop to bring it all together - there's nothing worse than a bare old wall.
Photobooth backdrops really pack a punch visually, but are actually really inexpensive and quick to put together. So today's diy project is how to make a photobooth backdrop that's pretty, fun and perfect for a wedding or New Year's party...
What you'll need to make a festive and sparkly Photobooth Backdrop
- Dowel between 4 and 6 feet long and 1/2 inch in diameter
- Tulle (I used a whole roll that was 1 foot wide and 100 feet long)
- 3 inch wide silver ribbon (I used 3 rolls of 15 feet)
- 2 inch wide wired silver ribbon (10 feet will do)
- Glitter paper
- Scissors
- Craft knife
- Plastic table cloth
- Removable hooks
DIY Photobooth Backdrop Instructions
1. Using white tack or painter's tape, hang the table cloth where you'll want your backdrop to hang. The table cloth will cover whatever is on the wall behind the backdrop.2. Then attach the removable hooks to the wall above the table cloth. Hang the dowel from the hooks. I found it easier to tie the tulle and ribbon to the dowel when it was already hanging but you could set the dowel on a table and hang it when it's finished.
3. Now, cut your tulle and 3-inch ribbon into 7-foot strips. When they're all cut, start with the tulle and simply tie it to the dowel and spread it all the way across. In the gaps, tie on the 3-inch ribbon in between so the whole dowel is covered.
4. Cut your wired ribbon into 2-3 foot lengths and curl around a jar or can. Tie the ribbon across the backdrop, making some longer and some shorter.
5. Using your scissors, cut circle shapes from the glitter paper. You can trace a circle shape on the back or just eyeball a circle. Using your craft knife, cut a cross on the back of each circle so you can thread the circle through the tulle.
6. Thread the circles onto the tulle across the backdrop.
7. Make sure the wired ribbon and circles are spread out across the backdrop and they aren't clumping too heavily in one spot. And you're done!
And now you're ready to grab some props and start posing! We found some champagne glasses and party blowers. This photobooth backdrop would work perfectly for your New Year's Eve party in a couple of weeks!
Merry Christmas Everyone!
