There is nothing better than a good ole love story with a happy ending. After meeting in their local pub,  Gemma and Anthony dated for a while before Gemma went off to university, when she returned to Derry they rekindled their romance and never looked back. When Anthony popped the questions the pair knew they wanted to celebrate with their family and friends in an intimate way. Sticking to a laid back theme of vintage romance the pair said I do with plenty of charm, pretty details and lots of love at Beech Hill Country House Hotel. Bride Gemma was quite handy when it came to the decor (with the help of her Mum) so read on for some top tips! The beautiful photographs were captured by Wrapped in Plastic Photography, so let's take a peek...

We've all been there before, where we have a little crush on our local barman, they are the ones serving us drinks after all! For Gemma though, her crush turned into the man of her dreams... "We met at our local 'Sandinos' where Anthony was a bar man and I thought he was super cute and so cool! We had a few dates, where Anthony introduced me to what he called 'sophisticated' drinks i.e. a G&T and cooked me dinners where he shared a house with his best friend. We enjoyed music, gigs and plenty of partying. I headed to University at Queen's and we did keep in touch on and off. When I finished Uni and settled back in Derry we hooked up again and were pretty much inseparable, in 2010 our beautiful Eilidh was born and we have had the strongest and closest family unit ever since."

We've heard so many engagement stories here at One Fab Day, each one as lovely as the next. The stand out ones are the guys (or gals) who kept it simple, thought about their partner and made it special. Anthony is one of those guys... "Anthony's proposal was such a surprise and I never thought it would happen as he always bluffed me into thinking marriage wasn't for him. His proposal was such a simple idea and very beautiful. He created a fairytale photobook, with photos of us as we grew up i.e. the prince saving the princess and so on, at the end there was the proposal. He gave it to me one night after I had quite a few drinks and I cried and cried. The book is something I can keep forever and I'm so proud of it. Anthony knows me only too well, and that I would have wanted to pick my own ring and so I choose my ring the next day a 1930s high set solitaire from the What Not in Derry. We decided not to wait too long to make it official and booked a date for 10 months time."

Gemma chose a beautiful vintage inspired lace tea length wedding dress from Joanne Fleming. She accessorised with a head-dress from Which Goose  and added additional fresh flowers to make it her own. Her best accessory was of course little Eilidh, who matched her Mum in a cute flower girl dress from Debenhams.

Bad weather doesn't need to ruin your plans.. "We intended to be married outdoors under the trees but on the day the weather just wasn't warm enough for sitting outside. However, we then had the pleasure of using the beautiful Skipton Hall. Myself and Mum decorated the hall ourselves. We bought loads of fresh flowers from a local florist, Beechwood Florists, and put arrangements in small hanging jars at the end of each row of seats. I also collected small vintage glasses from charity shops in the months coming up to the wedding so we used them to decorate the mantelpiece in the hall with fresh flowers too."

Although they planned to have their ceremony outdoors, its essential to have a Plan B because you just can't plan the weather! Gemma and Anthony really lucked out with Skipton Hall, what an epic room!

When it came to the venue, the pair wanted to be in one place and to have some freedom to come and go as they pleased... "The Beech Hill really ticked all the boxes for us. We were able to base ourselves at the hotel without the stress of travel. We were able to do everything at the hotel, the ceremony, photographs in the picturesque grounds, canapes for guests, hosting of the hog roast, the marquee and have our guests stay in the beautiful bedrooms. The food was also important for us as Anthony is a bit of a foodie and the Beech Hill is just such good quality. Plus the grounds of the venue are absolutely stunning! "

Gemma and Anthony kept it all nice and relaxed... "We didn't follow any theme for the wedding probably just relaxed, fresh, floral with a wee bit of vintage, we didn't want the traditional look."

Many hands make light work and this couple were so grateful for all the help they had. "We had quite a few friends and family involved in the decor, Lisa is a friend and did the photographs, my brother created the stationary, Anthony's aunt Bette did the flowers, and family friends Peter and Eimear played beautiful traditional fiddle music at the ceremony.  It was so special to have our 4 year old daughter Eilidh there and she was able to enjoy the beautiful gardens and grounds of the venue."

"I enjoyed collecting wee bits and pieces myself, I didn't spend too much on decor, I made a few paper pom poms from the entrance hall and again vases with flowers. We wanted a really chilled out relaxed day and I think from the feedback from the guests we did achieve that."

Having a little girl of their own and children attending the wedding, Gemma and Anthony put some thought into entertaining them with games, colouring books and markers, plus lots of sweets too! What advice would you give to brides and grooms planning their day? "Don't get too caught up in the small details, people often don't even notice the things you were worrying about. Choose the least stressful options for you and try to enjoy all the preparation!"
