'The Best Possible Friday Night Out': Mere & Will

We're struggling to think of a more stylish couple than this loved-up pair!

If today's real wedding doesn't give you a hankering for a cool and breezy Dublin city wedding, we don't know what will! English bride Mere and Irish groom Will planned their Medley celebration all the way from Australia, and we're a little bit obsessed - as well as being exceptionally stylish, their city centre bash looks like such a blast! Photographer extraordinaire John Gillooley from JAM Shoots was there to capture the magic, and take some painfully hip city portraits of the happy couple. Just a warning before we start: Mere and Will's excitement is infectious so you can fully expect to be grinning like the Cheshire Cat by the end of this post!

According to Mere and Will, this wedding was every bit as fun as it looks in the photographs!

We're not sure who owns the super cool townhouse where the couple had their first look, but we'd move there in a heartbeat!

Mere and Will tell us that they met at work. "I fancied the very stylish Irishman in the office," Mere says.

I can never resist a short wedding dress, and Mere's Stefania Di Ghionno creation is so unique (not to mention comfy-looking!)

This pair had a really intimate proposal at home. Will tells us; "I cooked her favourite meal while she was out at work drinks, and then pulled the trigger between courses. It was really nice to do it at home, she was extremely surprised!"

The couple knew straight away that they didn't want a conventional wedding. "We wanted it to be about us," Will says. "We did things our way, especially as that’s what we’re used to, living in Australia. We wanted great photos, our taste in music reflected, and a lack of rigid formality. Other priorities were food and hospitality, and the venue was perfect in that respect."

Will's burgundy suit is a sharp choice, and he accessorised it beautifully - I love how he used those mustard yellow socks to echo the colours in his button hole!

The couple say they knew that Medley was the venue for them when they received their first email from Event Manager Chris Meyler! "As a Dubliner it was really special to have the ceremony and reception in the city centre, in one perfect location," Will adds. "Most of the guests had never been to a wedding in town before, myself included. Andrew Rudd and the whole team really looked after us, we couldn’t fault anything. It was like the best possible Friday night out in town."

Mere describes the day as, "a great dinner party crossed with an early 2000s super club rave (to be fair, it was more the former). It was all about great food, great music, and the best people."

Don't they look so cool gallivanting around town in their wedding-day finery!? Mere's cape makes such a cute cover-up, and it ties in beautifully with the gorgeous bouquet by Flowers By Mee.

The couple say having breakfast alone and walking into the venue together were among their highlights from the day. "We had such a laugh that morning. Having our photos beforehand meant that we got more time with our friends and family, which was an absolute priority as, living overseas, we get so little time with them. I know it sounds simple, but it was just staggering to me that some many people took the time to come, and the people who couldn’t make it sent beautiful messages."

To look at these wedding portraits, you'd think that Mere and Will were the only two people on earth, not standing in the middle of commuter mayhem!

wedding Irish pub

A stop-off at your favourite pub is a wedding-day essential when getting married in Dublin city! From Mulligans on Poolbeg St., Mere and Will headed to Medley for a low-key ceremony surrounded by family and friends.

Mere's advice to engaged couples is to be confident in your decisions! "At times I questioned if I should be having a proper wedding (i.e. what '80s movies taught me a wedding should be #fatherofthebride). It’s really easy to feel pressured by media and social expectations, but honestly, I knew that wasn’t us. Stick to what you want, and you won’t regret it."

wedding table name ideas

Mere and Will named their tables after some of their favourite places in Australia - the artwork by Harper & Charlie adds so much colour to the dining space, along with the bold purple candles.

As Mere and Will were travelling 9,000 miles for their wedding, they decided to incorporate their honeymoon into their trip. "We first went to the UK, then Ireland for the wedding, then Mexico City, Tulum, Palm Springs and LA! Yep, 'twas epic!"

Are they not just the sweetest couple!? We have to say a huge thank you to Mere and Will for letting us take a sneaky peek at their big day, and to JAM Shoots for sharing the amazing photographs.
