Given that it features some of our favourite wedding suppliers, we were always going to love today's real wedding, an effortlessly elegant Summertime affair at Clonwilliam House. Irish bride Breda and UK groom Peter assembled a dream team of Irish wedding suppliers, including caterers extraordinare, Naomi's Kitchen, and one of our favourite wedding bands, Perfect Day, for their chic celebration, as well as the wonderful Mark Donovan on photography duties. The result is full of pretty ideas for engaged couples to steal, from hand-dried confetti petals to outrageously cool cake toppers, not forgetting next-level bridesmaid and bridal style! Ready to take a closer look? Let's go!
Breda and Peter tell us that they met on the finish line of the New York City marathon! "I was running the marathon with my friends who live in NYC," Breda says. "And Pete was there with a friend of his, Gaz. I was a bit overwhelmed at finishing, and Peter came up and asked if I was OK. We exchanged numbers and went on our first date the following day, meeting in Grand Central station. After a whirlwind few days in New York, Peter booked flights from Northampton to Dublin to visit me two weeks later."
Peter popped the question on their two-year anniversary. "He got down on one knee in Central Park in New York, on the spot where we had met!" Breda tells us. How romantic!
As Breda and Peter didn't want to wait long to be married, they had to be incredibly organised with their wedding planning! "We were on a short timeline, as we had just seven months between engagement and the wedding, but we got it all done!" Breda says. "We were decisive and tried not to get too focussed on smaller details. Someone very early on advised us to enjoy the day and trust the professionals, and that was excellent advice."
From the beginning, the couple had a clear idea of the kind of day they wanted. "We liked the idea of renting a country house that could be ours in its entirety for a few days. So many of our guests were coming from abroad, we wanted to showcase Ireland and all of its beauty. Most of all, we wanted the day to be fun for us, as well as our guests."
Breda tells us that they knew Clonwilliam House was their venue the minute they set foot on the estate. "We booked that same day," she says. "The venue and grounds are stunning, but what's really striking is the welcoming atmosphere created by Miriam. We also needed our venue to be wheelchair accessible, and Miriam and the staff of Clonwilliam House ensured that it was."
Breda's bridal look is such a showstopper! I love the timeless, '50s-inspired silhouette of her Suzanne Neville wedding dress, which she found at one of our favourite bridal boutiques, Sharon Hoey in Dublin.
I genuinely can't cope with this marathon-runner cake topper! Breda tells us that the big day played out exactly how they had hoped. "Although it started out drizzly, the sun came out just when it was needed. The ceremony felt very intimate, with 120 guests in the front room of the house. The whole day was full of happy people, smiling and laughing. We had a mini dance-off during dinner, which was really fun. We had handmade confetti and had bought sparklers, which led to some great moments."
After the wedding, Breda and Peter jetted off to California for what sounds like an incredible honeymoon. "We had five days of relaxation first, then went on a wine trekking adventure in wine country. It was the perfect honeymoon for us including food, wine and a tiny bit of exercise!"
This sounds like such a fun wedding! Before we leave you, we've got to say thanks so much to Breda and Peter for sharing their big day with us, and to Mark Donovan for providing the beautiful photographs.
