A Week-long Family Celebration: Emma & Orlagh

This Clonabreany House wedding was lit in more ways than one!

Every so often a real wedding comes along that we wish we'd been guests at, and Emma and Orlagh's laid-back wedding at Clonabreany House is one such bash! The gorgeous pair planned a celebration that was all about showing their friends and family a great day out. Not only did they wine and dine their guests - and treat them to a fire show, an epic dance party, and a 5am sing-along - but you can literally feel the love in this one too. May 22 Photography documented their day, and we're loving the elegant bridal style, the pretty reception space, and the *literal flame emoji* entertainment!

These two beauts met 12 years ago, both playing Gaelic football for Dublin team, Whitehall Colmcille.

The couple tell us about their intimate holiday engagement, “We went to Iceland to the Northern Lights. We both knew but really wanted something special with just the two of us.”

Describing their big day as ‘amazing’, the couple kicked off festivities the night before in the Headfort Arms in Kells. “We had the bridal suite and it was perfect for getting ready with our bridal party and parents around us. From there we headed on to Clonabreany House where we got dressed, that's when the atmosphere really started to pick up. From the window in the manor house we could see all our friends and family arrive and we enjoyed a sneaky drink before the ceremony.”

For Emma and Orlagh, the ceremony was the highlight of their day, “Romy, our celebrant, was brilliant and really tugged at the heartstrings. Our four nieces delivered special readings which was lovely. It sounds obvious but don’t overlook it. It’s not the boring part…the small details like music, readings, and vows. It was actually my favourite part of the day.”

The couple tell us the ‘legal bit’ was more significant than they’d expected, “On reflection I think I overlooked how special and enjoyable our marriage day in the registry office was. We got married on the Monday and celebrated with our families on the Friday.”

The couple chose gorgeous gowns that are each unique, but tie together beautifully, and paired them with loose upstyles and matching bouquets.

Finding the right venue was the top priority for Emma and Orlagh, “We wanted a venue with exclusive hire and a wow factor but with a laid back approach. Once the had the venue, band, photographer etc, all the other bits and bobs fell into place.”

The newlyweds have some wisdom to pass on to other couples, “Go with your gut and stay true to you and your partner as a couple. Don’t feel the need to get the seal of approval. If there is something you want get it! It will be the best day of your life!”

The couple went above and beyond to wine, dine and entertain their guests. “The food was amazing as were all the staff, they couldn't have done enough and we couldn't fault one thing. After the meal and hilarious speeches we had fire breathers in the courtyard, it was the perfect to kick start the evening entertainment.”

The ceremony space at Clonabreany was decked out with pastel lanterns, which tied in with the pretty florals.

After a full week of celebrating their wedding, the pair jetted off on their honeymoon, “We flew out to Fort Lauderdale for a couple of nights and then on a Caribbean Cruise - it was amazing!”

If you need me, I'll be by the six tiers of cheese.

These two made sure the day was laced with personal touches, “We had a six tier cheesecake (made up of a selection of our favourite cheeses), we also had wooden hearts with a frame for guests to leave personal messages and of course, the drum and fire breathing show.”

After getting the party going with a fire show, the festivities continued ‘til the wee hours, “The dance floor didn't stop, even during the interval people were still dancing. We were meant to be out of the manor house for 1am but, come 2am that's when the DJ finally stopped. From there it was onto the Shebeen on-site for pints and a sing song.... that lasted until 5am courtesy of Orlagh's cousin playing the spoons, who had the place on wheels.”

Talk about making it a night to remember! Thanks so much to Emma and Orlagh for sharing their day with us, and to May 22 Photography for sending the image our way!
