For our 2012 Christmas inspiration shoot we decided to put together our own take on a modern Irish Christmas table, a look which works equally well for an Autumn, Winter or even Spring wedding. Taking inspiration from the more paired down aesthetic of Scandinavian Christmas decor, we brought a simple palette of white, green, greys and mauve - the colours of Ireland in the winter - together in a combination of natural textures, fabrics and materials. Add to this a beautiful and bountiful seasonal floral centrepiece pulled from the hedgerows of Ireland, and the look is very muted and elegantly luxurious view of Christmas festivities that we hope you like as much as we do... (this is just part one - watch out for the Christmas Dessert table on Thursday!)
For the central floral arrangement, Claire, The Informal Florist, brought together a of seasonal foliage including alder cones, Eucalyptus Pods, Viburnum, Spruce, ivy and anemones - so pretty. The viburnum, something none of the rest of us were familiar with, gave the most delicious festive scent, and would be amazing on a Christmas table.
A myriad of candles brings the festive spirit without going overboard on gold, red or tinsel. This is a muted look suited to a grown-up celebration.
The beautiful napkins are the work of Jennifer Slattery, a Dublin-based textile designer who specialises in digital-printed imagery and embroidery. We used elements from her most recent collection, ‘An Imperfect World’, which is inspired by her grandmother's house and the ornaments and objects of past generations. The napkins are unique and would be a great gift for any home this Christmas. www.etsy.com/shop/JenniferSlattery
