Today's real wedding packs a lot of extra punch: two weddings, two dresses, lots of amazing Asian elements, all set on the beautiful backdrop of Larchfield Estate. Because Kirsty's family is from Hong Kong, they wanted to make sure they got to celebrate there as well. The obvious solution? Two weddings! The couple planned a traditional reception for more than 400 guests in Hong Kong, then returned to Northern Ireland for their ceremony and reception with friends and family.
Today we're getting a peek at their Northern Irish celebration, which the couple wanted to keep simple, rustic and joyful with lots of personal touches and entertainment for the guests. We always love seeing how Epic Love captures a bride and groom's big day, and as usual they do not disappoint...
Tim and Kirsty were students in Belfast when they first met studying architecture. After a few years they found themselves in the same wedding party for Kirsty's sister - and they used their respective tasks as an excuse to meet up and "discuss" the upcoming wedding. Soon after they started dating, Tim had to go to London to finish two more years of school. We were very clear that if we were still together after the two years, we would be together forever! And yes, our relationship was much stronger than we thought!
The couple planned a trip to Dubai, Hong Kong and Thailand last summer and that's when Tim decided to pop the question. Out of all the places we went during that holiday, he decided to get down to one knee at the waterfall in the spa inside the hotel. He asked me to stand at the edge of the bridge, which extended out to the middle of a circular pond under the clear blue sky. He pretended to take a photo of us with the beautiful scenery and walked toward me with a ring in his hand. Tim got me by surprise. It was the moment I will never forget! Well done, Tim, we love a guy who can pull off a surprise!
Kirsty's Chinese dress was handmade in Hong Kong, and we love how both her dresses tie in with the groom and bridesmaids so well.
From the get go, the couple knew they would be having a large wedding because they both come from large families and the couple has a large circle of friends. They started their venue search looking for large spaces that could fit all their guests. After looking at a lot of venues, the couple settled on Larchfield, which looked stunning on the day!
It looks like the groom and his band of merry men had a ball getting ready for the wedding. Can you figure out what they're trying to spell!?
How stunning does Kirsty look in her traditional attire? Epic Love really captured the beautiful, vibrant colours of Kirsty's dress in all it's glory.
With Epic Love in tow, it was on to Larchfield for some portraits and to get the celebrations started.
We love the way Epic Love took advantage of the surroundings to really blend the couple’s heritage with their Northern Irish venue.
Time for a wardrobe change before the ceremony! Every girl's dream - not one wedding dress, but two!
You may kiss the bride! Too cute - we love a happy couple ready to walk back down the aisle!
With the formalities sorted, Kirsty and Tim opted for some fun shots after the ceremony with their bridal party followed by some couple time in Larchfield's glasshouse.
The couple brought so many exquisite touches into the venue to represent their culture and heritage. We love the table assignment with sweet orchids on the stationery.
The orchids on the tables added a pop of colour to the otherwise snow white decor. They also add some nice height to each table without making it difficult for guests to chat across them. The couple hung table names from each orchid.
With the table set for dinner. All that's left for the guests to do was tuck in. Kirsty and Tim were very interested in making sure the food was really delicious, so they brought in caterers from Yellow Door to put on a yummy spread.
A little advice from the bride? No matter what it is a day for yourself and your other half. A special friend said to me “you can’t please everyone”. Too true, although two weddings gets you pretty close!
Congratulations, Tim and Kirsty on all your wedding celebrations! And thanks to Epic Love Photography for sharing these wonderful images.
