Another weekend, another huge celebrity wedding. This weekend was a double-whammy, not only was there Kate Moss's wedding to Jamie Hince - a major fashion event as the last true supermodel donned her first wedding dress, but there was also a Royal Wedding extravaganza to enjoy.
On Saturday confirmed bachelor Prince Albert of Monaco, only son of the iconic Princess Grace, wed Charlene Wittstock - you remember them, they visited Ireland in April just before the Queen and Obama, just after the Dalai Lama. So on Saturday the royal houses of Europe and a glitterati of celebrities turned out to celebrate the nuptials of the new Prince & Princess of Monaco.
Giorgio Armani was chosen as the designer for Charlene Wittstock's wedding dress, and he created a very elegant and understated wedding gown, as befits a future Princess. The skirt is beautifully cut and embroidered with an estimated 40,000 swarovski crystals, but I have to say that the bodice wouldn't be my choice. To my eye the dress looks out of proportion, almost mismatched.
Charlene Wittstock's wedding bouquet was composed of white freesia, white dendrobium orchids combined with pittosporum foliage, and designed in a shower style evoking memories of Princess Grace's wedding bouquet - a very sweet touch. Another nod to tradition were the seven little bridesmaids in traditional Monégasque costume - completely adorable and very eye-catching.
The hype about the Monaco Royal Wedding has been very different to that surrounding Kate & William's Royal Wedding in April. With Prince Albert's reputation as a philanderer and serial heart-breaker, no sooner were the couple down the aisle than the rumours started.
Fuelled by Charlene's tears three times during the ceremony, and Prince Albert's stoical posture and deportment during the wedding, it's being widely reported now that the marriage was arranged between the couple to provide an official heir to the throne of Monaco.
Arranged Royal marriages are nothing new (you would think in the 21st century they wouldn't be) so what has really got the rumour mill going is the story that Charlene tried to escape three times before the wedding! I really hope this isn't true, if it is, not sure this Royal Wedding is going to be one we should be inspired by!
Anyway we wish Good Luck and Happiness to Prince Albert & Princess Charlene.
