This week's ceremony reading is a timely one, an excerpt from Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez. We spotted this one being read at the impromptu wedding of a New York couple on Instagram who had a last minute ceremony after their plans were changed on account of coronavirus, and we thought it was not only apt, but incredibly romantic too. There are lots of beautiful excerpts from this novel, but this one struck a chord, so if you've had to reschedule your wedding, it might be a fitting one for you and your other half too!
Excerpt from Love in the Time of Cholera
“It was as if they had leapt over the arduous cavalry of conjugal life and gone straight to the heart of love. They were together in silence like an old married couple wary of life, beyond the pitfalls of passion, beyond the brutal mockery of hope and the phantoms of disillusion: beyond love. For they had lived together long enough to know that love was always love, anytime and anyplace, but it was more solid the closer it came to death.”
