This real wedding shows the visual impact of keeping your colour palette simple, as Roisin and Liam embraced all the glamour of a black and white winter wedding. The pair chose Cabra Castle as the venue for their winter wedding, which, with twinkly lights adorning every arch and doorway, created the ultimate festive fairytale backdrop. With gold embellishments shining throughout the venue and decor, Roisin and Liam's day was every bit the glamorous fairytale they intended it to be, and all captured by The Fennells Photography.
Roisin and Liam met when they were both living in London. "I was on my first teaching placement in London," Roisin tells us. "And I ended up teaching in the same school as Liam - we met and immediately hit it off."
While their first meeting was left entirely up to fate, the proposal certainly wasn't - Liam planned the ultimate romantic gesture. "We were on the way back to Ireland for Christmas from our home in Doha when we decided to stop off in Prague for a few days," Roisin says. "While we were there, Liam got down on one knee and proposed."
And the festive season has been an increasingly special time in their lives ever since, with the pair even choosing to have a Christmas wedding. "We wanted to keep the whole thing very warm and Christmassy, with lots of ivories and golds throughout."
There was one venue that ticked all the right boxes for Roisin and Liam and that was Cabra Castle. "Originally, I wanted to go abroad to get married but Liam had his heart set on getting married at home," Roisin admitted. "Liam's best friend was getting married in Cabra Castle and they highly recommended it. We went to visit a few venues when we went home but when we arrived in Cabra, we loved it! Liam and I both love Christmas and thought it would look beautiful that time of year so we went for it."
However, there was a bit of work to be done to transform the castle into the modern style they had hoped. "Decorating the venue was difficult because Cabra Castle is very old and it already has its own unique style, however, I really wanted a more modern styling," Roisin says. "We hired Frog Prince to do our flowers and styling and they sorted everything. One of our favourite moments from the day was walking into the ballroom and seeing the transformation. From all of our conversations, I was so excited to see it all put together, but I never could have imagined how spectacular it had turned out. Our jaws dropped when we walked in." As would ours!
Roisin's gown was the 'Cinderella Dress' by Lazaro from Padanee Bridal in Carrick-on-Shannon, while she got her headpiece in Lori Muldoon Millinery. Liam's suit was from the iconic Louis Copeland & Sons in Dublin. The bridesmaids were dressed in black Jarlo dresses from ASOS.
Naturally, the pair wanted to capture the magic of their day and getting the right person for the job was very important to them. "We both did our research online and discovered Mark and Fiona from The Fennells Photography. We saw amazing reviews and loved their work. They were so much fun on the day and coordinated everything, making the whole thing so much easier."
Roisin and Liam had the wedding the had both dreamed of, and as a result, have learned a thing or two about the process. "My sister is getting married next year and this is the advice I gave her; visualise what type of wedding you both would like before booking anything," Roisin tells us. "I feel like I rushed into a lot of my decisions due to living abroad and having the fear that everything will be booked up."
Roisin also admitted that she listened to but failed to adhere to advice shared with her from other brides! "Lots of brides told me to take my time walking down the aisle, but it really is so nerve-wracking entering the church with all eyes on you, so I think I rushed," she admits. "I was too busy waving at friends that I forgot to look at Liam's face when he turned around. So, just try and enjoy every minute because it goes by so quickly."
Thanks so much to today's couple, Roisin and Liam, for sharing a look at their fairytale winter wedding at Cabra Castle and to The Fennells Photography for capturing the magic.
