A Summertime Swedish Barn Wedding: Emelie & Trevor

A rustic celebration with odes to the couple's heritage

This real wedding comes to you from Emelie’s native Sweden where she and Trevor made it official with a barn wedding at Borlänge & Vassbo in Dalarna. For this pair, sharing their Swedish, English and Hungarian roots with their guests was a top priority. And when you see their gorgeous photos by Primalux Photography, I think you'll agree, they absolutely nailed it! This one is chic, rustic, and filled with fun!

Having met through work a few years prior, Trevor surprised Emelie with a trip to Venice where they had enjoyed their first trip together. After telling her that they would have an early breakfast at a Hotel by the Grand canal, he got her all dressed up and he proposed at dawn on the Punta Della Dogana, their favourite spot in Venice. She, as you’ve probably guessed by now, said yes!

When it came to planning the wedding, Emelie and Trevor knew exactly what they wanted their day to embody; “We wanted the wedding to be relaxed, romantic and intimate with a rustic vibe. We were trying to capture the spirit of Dalarna, Sweden and us,” Emelie tells us.

Who else will be pinning Emelie's gorgeous wedding day upstyle - the fresh flowers are such a pretty touch!

The couple were eager to make the day extra special for their guests, “Our priority was finding a good venue and a church that fitted our idea of how the wedding should feel was the first stage," explains Emelie, "People were traveling from all over the world, so we wanted to make it a full weekend so that everyone could meet and mingle, and we could spend time without friends. Then planning so that everyone could relax and have a good time during the day of the ceremony.”

These two lucked out with sunshine as they left the church!

How beautiful is the skirt on Emelie's lace appliqué wedding dress?!

“We decided on the venue because it was an old, wooden building, the right size and feel to it. The fact that we could hire the whole venue and provide accommodation for our guests over the weekend was great too.”

The couple included several homages to their family heritage on their day, “Dalahästar (traditional Swedish carved horse) party favours to show we were in Dalarna. Wines and wedding dress from Hungary (Trevor is half Hungarian). Beer from Mariestad (birthplace of the Emelie's father). The starter had caviar from Norrland (birthplace of the Emelie's mother). Trevor’s suits and wedding rings from his hometown of Bath, England.” How special!

When it comes to giving advice to other betrothed couples, Emelie and Trevor make some excellent points we think are worth sharing; “Get as much organised as early as possible, don't stress but enjoy the process! Try to have the last week before the wedding completely free – there will always be something you need to do, and it will take longer than you expect! Only invite people you want to come and that you will have a good time with, not those you think you have to invite. The big day will never go exactly as you have planned, don't get caught up in that but enjoy the day and remember; the most important thing is that you're married to the love of your life and have all your friends and family there to celebrate it with you!”

Huge thanks to Emelie and Trevor for sharing their advice, and the story behind their wedding with us - and thanks again to Primalux Photography for sending this gorgeous celebration our way. Make sure you head over to the gallery to see more from their gorgeous day!
