Beautiful Bunting Wedding Ideas - From Outdoors to Motif

Bunting has moved from outdoor picnic weddings to a motif in all sorts of celebrations, some of the best and easiest bunting ideas include cake toppers and stationery so we found our faves and diy bunting ideas to boot!

With the whole craze for vintage, picnic style and generally less formal weddings over the last few years, traditional-style bunting has had a real renaissance, and become a key decoration at weddings.  But over the last year or so bunting has gone through a bit of an evolution, moving away from the picnic and outdoor celebrations, moving inside and becoming more of a motif.

Bunting Inspiration

So while you may be having a hotel wedding you can bring some of that summer outdoor fete or picnic vibe inside by employing the bunting motif in a few simple touches. And the great thing about bunting is that it can be adapted to any colour palette or wedding style from vintage or retro Cath Kidston style to more minimalist sophistication in single colours. So we thought we'd prove the point with a little bunting inspiration post peppered with some wedding diy ideas...

What could be cuter than mini-bunting on a wedding cake? Whether it's wound round the cake or proud as punch on top as the cake topper, it adds that little bit of offbeat cuteness.  And the good news is that a cake doesn't have to be super expensive or styled to pull off the bunting (although you can if you want!) - the plainest white cake comes to life with a little cute coloured bunting cake-topper.

You can find lots of different styles of bunting cake topper on Etsy. But if you'd like to make your own then it couldn't be easier with this diy bunting cake topper tutorial over on The Sweetest Occasion - it's an ideal project for a wannabe diy bride with not a lot of time on her hands.

The bunting motif can be virtual as well as physical - a bunting motif in your chosen colour palette is a great way to jazz up plain white stationery. There are lots of beautiful examples of stationery like the ones above (from top left): How About Orange A Bird and a Bee;  A Bird and a BeeLetter C Design via EtsySusan Dean via Southern Weddings Studio Seed.

For a diy touch you could take plainer wedding invitations and stamp them with your own bunting motif in whatever colour you like (it would have to be one colour as you will be using an inkpad). Again, Etsy is a great bet for Bunting stamps. Alternatively just putting a little line of bunting on the placecards might add the desired effect and is super simple to do.

Bunting-Decor

But as with everything, it's always nice to have a little of the real thing - in terms of bunting as wedding decor this doesn't mean having to bedeck your function room or marquee in swathes of the stuff. You could hang some on a feature wall, or above the guest book. Add a little to the chairs at the top table - or even just the bride & groom's. Or a very cute idea that we've seen done by many of our couples such as Laura and Shane  is to use a piece of bunting with lettering as the photograph for their thank you note.

So what other ideas do any of you have for including bunting in your wedding? We'd love to hear from you...
