Test Tubes and Happy Tears: Roisin & Chris

This might be our first science-themed wedding!

This might be our first science-themed real wedding! Roisin and Chris are a Dublin couple who halted their venue search the moment they found Ballybeg House. The venue allowed them to host a four day takeover, where they and their 170 guests celebrated their love. Flowing drinks and a relaxed atmosphere were the top priorities, along with syringe-laced cocktails and a‘Glucose Station’ for sweets. Louise Scott Photography captured this gorgeous couple on their big day, beautifully.

Roisin and Chris tell us they first met nine years ago, at a mutual friend’s gig, “Although we both grew up in same part of Dublin, we rarely hung around in the same circles because Chris was five years older. But it was the ‘Von Shakes’ mystery tour gig that brought every local between the ages of 18 and 28 halfway around Dublin to listen and party to their tunes,” explains Roisin, “We spotted each other in the first bar, the Bloody Stream in Howth but didn’t get the opportunity to chat.”

What a babe! Roisin's gorgeous wedding dress was custom made.

This has got to be the cutest Child of Prague we've ever seen!

As they went from bar to bar, the pair finally struck up a conversation, “A bit of Dutch courage helped to get us chatting in Johnny Foxes pub in Glencullen. But it wasn’t until the last bar, at the side of the neon tiled dance floor in the Mezz nightclub off Grafton Street we first kissed.” I’m not quite sure what this mystery tour is, but it sounds like great craic!

Everyone who visits Ballybeg House tells us that the ceremony space is so unique, romantic and atmospheric.

Chris proposed to Roisin at the end of a six month trip around the world, “We were on a beach in the Gili Air Island of Indonesia overlooking an active volcano on Bali as the sun went down, turning the sky neon pink and orange,” recalls the bride. “Chris got down on one knee in the sand and I was so shocked and overjoyed I couldn’t stop crying! We waited to tell our friends and family in person when we got home, and both really enjoyed living in that love bubble for a week with just the two of us knowing.”

The pair wanted their wedding day to be as personal as possible. “We had a humanist ceremony delivered by Chris’s aunt and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! We also had our friend Paddy from the Von Shakes band play a song for our ceremony, to remind us of the night we first kissed.”

The couple tell us their wedding celebrations went by so fast, “It was a wonderful weekend. The day before was so exciting, and a little nerve-racking, knowing 170 guests were set to arrive the next day, but the wedding day itself was very relaxed. As cliché as it sounds it is such a surreal feeling to have every person you both know and love in the same place to celebrate your love… I wish we could do it all over again!”

The couple were well prepared when they started their venue search, “We had a list of requirements to help us narrow down the search (e.g. beside a body of water), but as soon as we came across Ballybeg online they all went out the window! We knew it was the one as soon as we saw it in person because it had such a relaxed, chilled, authentic Irish vibe.”

The bride and groom looked that they could really make the venue their own. “The surrounding countryside is stunning and the owner Paddy was so friendly and helpful about everything - we had the run of the place for four days! We also loved that it was BYOB so we could supply all the alcohol we wanted for our guests.”

We are here for a wedding theme! "Roisin is a scientist so there was a running science theme for the wedding with test tubes filled with Smarties, periodic table of tables for Day Two and a science drinks cocktail stand.”

These newlyweds have some words of advice to share with others, “Do all the planning and preparations well in advance and make sure you delegate all the little tasks for the day of so you can just soak up every moment of your big day!”

In keeping with the rustic vibes, the couple opted for a beautiful semi-naked buttercream wedding cake by Love Um Cakes.

If you need me, I'll be at the Glucose Station getting my fix of Smarties.

These two adventurers have quite the honeymoon planned! "We are going to Kenya and Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro, swim with whale sharks and do a camping safari. We are so happy we waited a few months to go on honeymoon so we still had something to look forward to!”

I have a feeling the party continued well into the night - hit the gallery below to see the dance floor action! Thanks so much to Roisin and Chris for sharing your day with us and to Louise Scott Photography for sending it our way.
