A little confession: I love balloons, in all shapes, colours and sizes, I always have and always will. There is just something about a balloon that puts a smile on your face and it looks like I'm not the only one.  I was delighted to spot balloons as an emerging trend for weddings as a prop for those all important big day photos.

Whether it's hiding, lollipop style, behind a big balloon, or just tugging some along as prop to keep fiddly hands occupied, balloons bring a bit of childish fun to the portraits - like Trish & Niall's escape to Tory Island.

Balloons can be bought anywhere and everywhere, but if you're looking for those extra large round ones - try BubbleXL  - you can even get 6ft wide ones!

Set Your Guests Free...

How about this for getting the guests involved - a balloon release ceremony! Gather your family and friends, tell them to make a wish for the newly married couple, and on the count of 1, 2,3, let go!

Sweet and Simple - Balloons as Marquee Decor

How gorgeous do those balloons look up on the ceiling? This is a great idea (cheap too) if you have high ceilings and want to add a little extra colour to a space, or for creating a dramatic entrance in a hallway. Add some ornaments to the strings hanging down, uh dreamy!

If you want to add a little extra up, up and away into your day, why not incorporate items like this finger print tree from Blue de Toi on Etsy or be inspired to have a beautiful balloon cake like this one from The Cake That Ate Paris. These paper lanterns photographed by Marianne Taylor give the illusion of balloons and Cheer Up Cherup's invite design from Minted is so fun and whimsical.
