A Gorgeous At-Home Wedding in Wicklow: Georgina & Richie

A beautiful couple who finally tied the knot despite numerous challenges (and then some!)

Where do I begin with today's resilient real wedding couple Georgina and Richie? They are incredible. After being diagnosed with cancer just months into planning her wedding, bride Georgina marched forward with their wedding plans, making decisions on colour palettes and table plans while undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Then, the Covid-19 pandemic forced the couple to completely rethink their plans. Six months of chemotherapy, and a rescheduled wedding date later, this bride finally married her beloved, Richie, with one of the loveliest at-home weddings we've ever seen. Their beautiful wedding proves that, whatever obstacles may come your way, the only thing that really matters is the love you have for your significant other. We can't get enough of their wonderful day, captured by Roger Kenny of The Portrait Room.

Georgina and Richie tell us that they first met on a college ski trip in Les Arc 9 years ago. Shortly afterwards, Richie moved to Germany on his college Erasmus. The couple stayed in contact via Skype and a few trips over and back. "There were a few years of adventures with just the two of us," Georgina tells us. "Then in 2015, we became three with the arrival of our beautiful baby girl, Robyn."

Cocobrew were on hand before the ceremony to serve guests speciality coffee, teas and treats. The personalised cups are such a lovely touch!

The proposal happened while the couple were on a weekend away at The Powerscourt Hotel to celebrate Georgina’s 26th Birthday. The bride fills us in, "Richie had organised for our daughter, Robyn, to be there. We were playing a game of hide and seek in the suite, and, when it was my turn to find them, I came around the corner to Richie down on one knee, and Robyn sitting on his knee holding the ring. I still get goosebumps thinking about it, it's one of my happiest memories."

The journey to Georgina and Richie's wedding was an emotional one, filled with heartbreak, happiness, and lots of love. "Our wedding was originally planned for Ballybeg on the 19th of June 2020," Georgina says. "Unfortunately, in September 2019, our world changed when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, which meant undergoing six months of harsh treatment. We made the decision early on to change the plan. We decided we would still get married on the 19th of June and have something small in my family home to mark it. However, Covid arrived and changed our plans again! We finally changed our date to late August. I can’t count the amount of changes we went through to get to that day, even to cancelling and reorganising the wedding with half the number of guests, with five days to go! So, to finally get to the morning of the wedding and to get married was a dream come true! The fact that there was a storm blowing outside didn’t even matter!"

The happy couple celebrated their marriage on the 28th of August, with a tipi wedding ceremony and reception at Georgina’s family home in Co. Wicklow. Georgina explains, "Aside from all the happy memories I have from growing up in my family home, this was the first place we brought Robyn home to when she was born. We spent 18 happy months there before moving out on our own. We’ve had so many happy times together there. The house is located on the side of a mountain in Wicklow, surrounded by the most beautiful views and landscape. A dream wedding venue!"

Looking back on her day, Georgina tells us that their ceremony was the highlight for them both. "It was so intimate and personal. Walking down the aisle to see all the people I love so much was just so special."

She adds, "The happiness we felt on the day was indescribable, the wedding day was informal, relaxed, homely and filled with more love and laughter than we ever could have imagined."

Georgina found her show-stopping, embellished Jenny Packham bridal gown at Sharon Hoey. To complete her bridal look, she added a soft tulle veil, gold Jimmy Choos and a Gucci bracelet (her something blue!), which was a present from Richie the morning of the wedding.

Richie looked suitably dapper in a slick navy tuxedo from Louis Copeland & Sons.

The bride carried a dreamy summer bouquet of cream, pink and lilac roses, paired with eucalyptus.

Georgina was brilliantly supported on the day by her bridesmaids, who looked wonderful in dusty pink dresses from Nadine Merabi.

I love the romantic decor Georgina and Richie chose, reflecting the season with blush pink candles and beautiful floral arrangements on the dining tables.

When asked if they have advice for those planning a wedding during these testing times, the couple say, "don’t overplan during a pandemic, chances are these plans will change! Don’t lose sight of why you’re getting married, it will help with your decision-making along the way!" We can't agree more!

After the celebrations, the couple and their daughter, Robyn, headed off on a mini-moon to Kelly’s in Rosslare. The couple tell us, "it’s one of our favourite places to go as a family. Once travel reopens, we hope to travel further afield."

That's a wrap on Georgina and Richie's gorgeous at home wedding! At this point, we've got to say a huge thank you to the couple for sharing their amazing day with us, and to Roger Kenny of The Portrait Room for providing the wonderful imagery To see the full set of images, simply click through to the gallery below.
