When a couple have known each other since they were studying algebra and poetry in school, and have been together for nearly as long, they really have to do something special to celebrate. In the case of Julieanne and Kevin, I'm sure all their loved ones were just dying for an amazing party, and the couple definitely didn't let them down. They decided to throw an Art Deco wedding extravaganza at Cabra Castle, a wedding so glamorous it would outdo a Gatsby party. Definitely an occasion every lucky guest will remember forever, and we're delighted that Paula O'Hara was there to capture it all and we can share it today...
Julieanne describes how her and Kevin fell in love: "We have been together since we were teenagers, I was 17 and Kevin was 19. We went to the same school, although Kevin was a couple of years above me - we even worked together in our part time student jobs. However, it wasn't until after Kevin finished school that we got together. It just sort of happened, we started out as friends and things progressed from there! We have grown up together along side our childhood friends, we have experienced school, university and travel together! After 11 years we thought it was about time we tied the knot and gave all our friends and family a great day out!"
When it came time to propose Kevin really wanted to surprise bride Julieanne. He planned an idyllic trip to New York, but when rumours of a proposal began to spread Kevin knew he needed an alternative plan. Julieanne describes the surprise..."We planned a trip to New York together over Christmas, and of course all our friends and family were convinced Kevin was going to pop the question there and I must admit I did think it myself. However, a couple of week before we were due to go Kevin decided we were going to take a trip up to the north coast. He booked a beautiful old white wash cottage right on the edge of a cliff in Ballintoy. It was there that he popped the question beside a beautiful open fire, with candles lit and flowers everywhere. It was just perfect the two of us in the cottage. He said he wanted to surprise me as there was so much hype with us heading to New York and surprise me he did!"
Inspired by the glamour of the 1920's and the Art Deco period, Julieanne and Kevin began to plan a glam castle wedding complete with vintage inspired attire and a roaring castle party for their friends.
Stunning bride Julieanne embraced the 1920's theme choosing a floor length lace embellished wedding dress from The White Gallery, which she accessorised with a sparkling vintage inspired head piece.
The ceremony was celebrated by Kevin's uncle in the stunning St Peter's Church, which really needed very little décor or styling additions.
Focusing on quality not quantity, Julieanne and Kevin really wanted to make sure the main elements of their day were done right - and as you can see from their choice of church and wedding day looks, they aced it all round. Julieanne explains..."For us, we wanted to do the main elements of the day well and we knew the rest would follow. We had a beautiful venue in Cabra Castle, an amazing photographer in Paula O'Hara, and of course her extremely talented brother Story of Eve cinematography who captured the day beautifully. Memories to treasure forever! For us we wanted our friends and family to have a relaxed day full of craic and they definitely did, we had a fabulous band who got the crowd up and dancing straight away!"
In keeping with the 1920's style of the day, Julieanne and Kevin decorated Cabra Castle with subtle vintage hints. Julieanne describes the look: "The stationary was Art Deco inspired and so was the cake. As it was a spring wedding I wanted the colours to reflect this, while it was vintage inspired I didn't want the dark heavy gold colouring of the Art Deco era, so I opted for mint for the bridesmaids and the flowers were a combination of pinks, peaches and creams. These colours also featured in my stationery and cake with some gold embellishment added in."
To end the day Kevin had another surprise, but unfortunately it was such a secret that not even the photographer or videographer knew about it. Our bride explains: "One of the standout moments was the surprise firework display Kevin managed to organise for the end of the night. I can't believed he was able to pull it off without me finding out, he even had the band in on the surprise when they managed to convince all the guest there was an emergency and to evacuate out of the hotel. It was such a lovely way to end the day. Unfortunately, he kept it that good of a secret he forgot to book our photographer to stay and we didn't get and photographs of it!"
For their honeymoon Julieanne and Kevin spent three weeks travelling Bangkok and Ko Samui followed by a few days in Dubai. Huge congratulations to you both, and thanks so much for sharing your wedding day with us all. A big thank you also to Paula O'Hara for sharing her work with us.
