For a couple who live abroad, organising a wedding at home in Ireland isn't the easiest thing, but when you're as cool and relaxed as Lucy and Kevin, it's a breeze (or so they made it appear). They were really clear that they wanted a wedding without all the stuff they didn't care about - just a great party with fantastic music somewhere different that they could relax in. Mount Druid was the perfect location for this party, they were blessed with amazing weather and the fun times rolled... Darek Novak was on hand to capture all the stunning details of this wedding...
Lucy and her friend moved home from London before traveling to Australia. They were tired of the city life and partying and wanted to save up for their 4 month adventure. When they were home, she met Kevin. Lucy tells us about the day…“I visited a friend’s house one evening for a few drinks and Kevin was there. We were in the same year in school and knew each other’s name but had never met or spoken to each other! It was a big school….We were together until the night before I left for my flight, and I think we both realised how hard it would be to be apart. I returned 4 months later and the rest is history!”
Even though Lucy was living in Singapore and Kevin in Saudi Arabia, they still made time to see each other. Kevin would fly to Singapore every 6 weeks for a two week visit. For one of their two week visits they decided to meet up in Ireland to visit family. Lucy remembers…“We stayed a night in the Galgorm Hotel as a treat and when walking in the garden Kevin got down on one knee. After 6 years together it wouldn’t be expected as a huge surprise but it was!”
Lucy reflects on one of the best parts of the day..."My favorite moment of the day was getting into the little chapel. I couldn't wait to marry Kevin."
Venue picking is easy...when you fall in love with your first choice! Mount Druid was the first and only place the couple looked and they were hooked. Lucy tells us how she found it…“On google we typed in in alternative weddings Ireland, without knowing this was actually the website address at the time for our venue. We viewed the venue on another trip home and it was the first and only place we looked at…it was perfect.”
Lucy says one thing unusual about the day was how hot it was. “It was 28 degrees without a breeze. The day before and day after were at least 7 degrees lower. Getting married in a tin chapel where the heat was enhanced made it feel like we were in deep South America!”
Lucy’s mum and sister helped out with all the decorating. Her mum, Elizabeth, made the flower bouquets along with all the flowers in the chapel. Her sister, Danielle, made cute little Fox character table displays that helped the guests find their seats.
The couple leaves us with some advice..."Make it your own and cut out what you don’t think is important. For us the venue and music was the most important. The band was fantastic!"
Huge congratulations to you both and thanks so much for sharing your wedding day with us all. A big thank you also goes to Darek Novak for sharing his work with us. To see more from Darek Novak visit https://www.photosligo.com/.
