Prepare to be transported to a romantic, heart-warming and elegant wedding day packed with the most special, once-in-a-lifetime moments sure to give you goose pimples.
Susan and Martin's love story is a true example of the saying 'what's meant to be will always find a way.' While these two set eyes on each other some years ago in Bow Lane in Dublin under the festive glow of twinkling fairy lights, they were quickly surprised to discover this wasn't their first encounter. They had shared an innocent kiss years earlier when they met at a Tetrathlon at just 15 years old! Although they admit that day is a 'distant memory,' their fated encounter and chance to reconnect adds a whole new depth to their relationship and love story. Tying the knot in Adare was something that meant the world to the couple, honouring Michael's roots and connection to the town. Their top priority was a 'nice venue with good food and service,' and Adare ticked each of those boxes. The pair say 'the sheer stunningness' of the prestigious venue, coupled with Adare being the town Martin and his family grew up in, is what won them over.
A Maserati and a Porsche, belonging to the family, were on hand ready to escort them into newly wedded bless!
Susan and Martin's special day had several very personal touches, right down to their priest, Father Chris from Kilmallock Parish Church, who has a very strong connection to the groom's family having also married his sister Rebecca some months previously. Martin's groomsman Will and his wife Aoife also had the honour of having Father Chris pronounce them man and wife. 'We couldn't have done without him' Susan tells One Fab Day, admitting Father Chris was a very important and memorable part of the day: 'He makes the ceremony so fun and personal.'
This gorgeous couple describes their chic and elegant wedding day as 'relaxed, classy, and fun.' Susan, especially, had been feeling every emotion under the sun in the lead-up to the day, having lost her father the summer before. She was worried emotions would be at an 'all-time high' walking up the aisle in the Holy Trinity Abbey Church without him by her side. But thanks to the support of her friends and family, she felt relaxed and was able to soak up the magic. Her incredibly thoughtful bridesmaids even found a way to make her dad a part of the day by gifting her a unique locket with a very sentimental photo of him inside.
With two of her bridesmaids expecting, Susan's mission was to ensure they felt comfortable in their bridesmaid's dresses! After much deliberation about the colour and style, they chose a beautiful classic black as the colour for the gown. The perfect choice to go hand-in-hand with a black tie soiree!
Susan embraced a subtle outfit change on her chic and elegant wedding day, something that more and more brides are opting for! Why have one look when you can have two, right? Susan's first look was a beautiful two-piece by Badgley Mischka, whilst her evening look was a sensational beaded corset by the same designer. Although she always fancied herself in a pair of Manolo's or Jimmy Choos on her big day, she ultimately chose to keep it simple with a block heel, making comfort a priority! Her pearl-embellished bridal shoes were loved so much, that her bridesmaid borrowed them for her wedding day. We can't skip over our dashing groom Martin who went for a sustainable option for his wedding look - a much-loved tuxedo he had in his closet. 'Despite the battle to try and get him to get a new one, he tried on so many and just couldn’t find one he liked as much as the tux he already had,' Susan explains and we think he looks ever so dapper!
These newlyweds worked with the venue's in-house wedding planner to bring their dream wedding to life. Their experience was a seamless one, they explain: 'No question was too random for her to answer. She was just so incredibly helpful in terms of guiding on what works best, recommendations, table plans, the band set up etc.' They were extremely lucky with all their suppliers the styling talented team dressed the ballroom and venue with the most sensational floral displays using pastel pinks and whites with a hint of green foliage. Their scrumptious six-tier cake was described as 'an actual work of art,' to use the bride's words!
Fancy a giggle? Wait until you hear Susan and Martin's engagement story! After Martin popped the question on the 29th of February 2020 during an unforgettable trip to New York City, the pair were left - quite literally - on their hands and knees scrambling for Susan's engagement ring as she misplaced it during a trip to the bathroom (after several celebratory drinks)! Luck was on their side when they eventually found it, but not before 'crawling around dirty floors in the bar picking up anything' that caught their eye thinking it might be it - including chewing gum! 'We had given up hope after about an hour of searching and decided to call it a night. When we go to the top of the stairs, there it was, winking up at us, an actual miracle!' they share. The ring was a promise ring but it held so much sentimental value, the relief was enormous... as we can imagine!
Your chosen venue's staff will have a huge impact on how your day will run and Susan couldn't find enough kind words to say about the couple's butler Philip who works at the wedding venue. Philip is assigned to brides and grooms on their special day/weekend, on hand to take the stress out of the occasion and Susan can't sing his praises enough! 'He was honestly one of the nicest and most helpful people we’ve ever met,' she says. 'He helped with the dress in the morning to get it pressed (his suggestion), food, looking after my elderly mum, the bridesmaids, he helped in suggestion spots for photographs, he was just anywhere and everywhere and he is someone we were so grateful for on the day, above anything else, he was just so relaxed and fun and lovely to be around.'
Sprinkling fun into their day was important to this couple and their wedding band who certainly got the crowd going on the dance floor! Straight after the wedding, the newlyweds jetted off to Tenerife to celebrate their new chapter together, saving their honeymoon to the Maldives for a few weeks later in January. They stayed in a dreamy resort called Sun Syiam Iru Fushi where they switched off and enjoyed everything the luxury resort on the idyllic island has to offer - including its seven restaurants and endless water activities! On the way home, they stopped off in Dubai for a couple of nights, the icing on the honeymoon cake - perfect!
Susan and Martin's advice to anyone tying the knot is to enjoy every moment because 'it flies by!' They say the best money they spent was on a videographer because although costly, it's worth every penny. They've watched their wedding video 'over 1,000 times already! Thank you so much to Susan and Martin for sharing their elegant chic wedding with One Fab Day and thank you to Storytellers for sharing their treasured wedding photos - what a treat it's been soaking this couple's special moments and reliving their big day with them.
