A Very Stylish Picnic Wedding Party: Scarlett & Tim

A picnic with some serious style? Is that possible? Yes it is...

Today's wedding is retro glam at its best. Scarlett and Tim blew me away with their creativity. This pair are one seriously cool couple. The charm of Scarlett is endless from her vintage meets retro modern bridal style, to her thoughtful and creative nature. Tim is boldly fashionable with a cheeky grin and a flair for the '80s. Combined they are one creative duo who planned the perfect DIY picnic reception at Baxby Manor. The style is fab, the food looks delish and everyone looks like they are having the best time and you can see it all for yourself in the brilliantly captured photographs by Miki Photography...

I don't think anyone ever said love was straightforward, like life there are often some obstacles to face in the quest of true love. Tim and Scarlett's story had some ups and downs but in the end it all worked out...

"One afternoon, I went for a cocktail with my friend to the local Italian restaurant, and ended up leaving with a job. On my second day at work I met Tim, and liked him right away and we became friends. Three weeks after meeting he declared his love for me (I didn't realise he was the one who convinced his boss to give me a job after seeing me in the restaurant!) We went out with a group of friends for a birthday, and ended up dancing to Jailhouse Rock, where I slipped and broke my wrist. He took me to A&E then took me to his parents house, and set up in the spare bed so he could look after me! We went up to a beautiful remote spot on the north yorkshire moors, to figure things out (there were a couple of obstacles), and it was there that  I knew we could have something really special. On the way back he made me listen to Noah and the Whale- 'Five years time'. Anyway, three weeks after telling me he had fallen for me, he completely surprised me by telling me that he had sorted things out and we could start a relationship . That was in August, and shortly after in October we moved to London so Tim could go back to uni to study for his MA Fashion at St Martins. It was six weeks that completely changed my life!"

Three and a half years later on their anniversary, Tim popped the question up on the Moors, at the same spot they'd made it official.

To say Tim and Scarlett's wedding was hands on is an understatement. These guys pulled in a lifetime amount of favours to get their show on the road and that included all the food for the picnic reception they had planned. I won't give the game away of how fab the food was just yet, but from the look of the differently sized packages wrapped in craft paper and twine you know it's going to be a feast!

So I'm a lil bit in love with bride Scarlett. Not only is she a total babe, but her bridal style is fabulous! From her head to her toes she is a brilliant combination of vintage vixen, rockabilly-ready with a splash of modern glam. Only my three favourite styles in one...

Scarlett's beautiful lace embroidered wedding dress is from Danbury by Enzoani the length is fun and flirty and the lace detail is feminine and girly. Scarlett accessorised with vintage lotus pearls and VoH petticoats - how fab!

No vintage babe would be complete without some vintage wheels, along with her Pops, Scarlett headed to the church.

The pair chose Holy Name of Mary, Roman Catholic Church in Middlesbrough to say I do. The church is Tim's family church and it was just across the road from his family home, plus his parents got married there too!

As you can see from the groom, groomsmen and bridesmaids, colour and florals were a definite trend in Scarlett and Tim's big day and wild flowers were the flower of choice...

"We wanted to use wild flowers, and so took a chance on whatever was available. We also used gypsophila for pew ends and heather collected from the moors, from the very spot we got engaged.."

A super colourful ceremony, a confetti toss and plenty of smiles means this pair are officially hitched!

So now that it's official, let me fill you in on this stylish duo. Scarlett is a girly girl with an edge, who loves all things vintage and antique. She cites Marie Antoinette as a style idol and petticoats with generous layers as her fave fashion find (girl after my own heart!) Tim on the other hand is the complete opposite - opposites attract though! He loves all things modern, masculine, minimalist, with a big dollop of '80s (we did spot the pale pink suit Tim!) Their different styles blended together on the day in such a charming way, with Tim's modern minimalism complimenting Scarlett's vintage tastes creating something pretty cool.

Tim's a fashion designer so he had a pretty clear idea of what he wanted to wear on the day, getting Scarlett on the same page took a bit of time though...We were originally going to have indigo blue suits for Tim and the groomsmen. With Tim being a fashion designer and being quite particular, he could never find the right suit (it didn't help we both had a slightly different idea of the perfect blue!) With four weeks to go and no suit, we ditched the blue and went with a pink suit from Ted Baker, which looked so much better, and was also on sale! The icing on the cake was Tim's handmade floral bow tie with fabric from Vivien of Holloway, oh and those shades of course!

Scarlett had a few accessories of her own, a beautiful paper parasol (amazing for photographs!) and three different pairs of shoes, yes three! A beautiful gold peep toe heel that were second hand from Ebay, lace ballet flats from H&M which were lovingly embellished and a pair of pink wellies from Penneys - ya know just incase!

The style was epic so it's a treat to see so many fab portraits of the two by Mick of Miki Photography.

Scarlett's bridesmaids followed her retro style in floral printed dresses from Vivien of Holloway and the girls wore matching pearl necklaces too!

I can't quite keep count of all these groomsmen but I like how there is a mix of blue and pink on the boys and I think they like it too!

While the style stakes are high the best is yet to come with Scarlett and Tim planning the perfect picnic reception. Like many of us (myself included) Scarlett read wedding blogs a lot before she even got engaged! She picked up some useful advice that helped her start her own planning process...

"One bride gave some really useful advice that I used as our 'theme'. It was, 'If you couldn't see yourself using the item or thing in your own home, don't include it in your wedding.' I didn't want a theme myself, I used to work in a wedding venue, and saw weddings every week. And apart from a slightly different dress, and a slightly different cake, it was all pretty much the same. I also have quite a strong style. While I am not trying to claim I'm something so different, or so cool or anything, I know what I like and I go with that, and I don't care what other people think (even Tim-which drives him crazy being a fashion designer - he just wants to style me all the time!)"

With an abundance of knowledge and a sense of personal style, it still took the pair a couple of visits before they found the venue...When Tim didn't like any of the short listed venues I had picked. I scrapped the list, tried harder, and Baxby Manor turned up, which ticked every box!

I mentioned earlier that Scarlett and Tim's wedding was a hand-made creation and I wasn't exaggerating! They got lots of help from family and friends to carry out their picnic wedding and set things up. Instead of gifts they wanted their loved ones to donate their time to help as their wedding gift to us....They have made us into the people we were that made us fall in love. They have inspired us along the way. And they will continue to shape our lives in the future. It wouldn't have been the same wedding without the love and time they put in.

So here goes, Scarlett's two friends helped to make her bouquet and do all the flowers for the ceremony and reception. More friends cooked the food with her. The pair had other friends construct a dance floor and benches from old wooden pallets. Others baked, sewed, printed, sawed, arranged, and painted.

"It was great seeing our guests reactions to what we had achieved. I guess when people think 'DIY wedding' they are thinking it's not going to be professional, but I am so proud of how it turned out. It was exactly how it was in my mind. Heading back to the house after taking some pictures and seeing everyone chilling out for the picnic, just relaxing in the sunshine was perfect. The ceremony was emotional and beautiful so it was great to be able to relax and not have to worry about any more formalities."

The picnic ended with the pair's pal Matty giving everyone ice lollies and they couple serving up a Victoria sponge baked by Tim's mother and her best friend. The day wasn't nearly over though with the newly-weds and their guests dancing the night away to what else but a Spotify playlist - very cool.

So what advice did Scarlett and Tim have for couples planning their day?

"I have a belief that everything will work out even better than before, and it was proven so many times. When we couldn't find a good red wine, we carried on until the perfect one showed up three weeks before the day. And I only found my veil six days before! Also, when something seems out of your budget, don't worry, use it as an exercise in creativity. It takes more creativeness when working with a budget than without. We tried to find something to put the flowers in, in the Church, with all ideas working out a lot of money. Then I had an idea to use my dads wine making demijohns. They were free, and also a little nod to my childhood making wine with him."
