Today's real wedding is the culmination of a summer romance, but not just any old summer holiday - a J1 summer in San Diego! Unlike the rest of our summer flings, Ruth and Ronan's romance lived on well passed the part-time jobs in Abercrombie, beach bbqs and wild trips to Mexico (more about that some other time!). Fast forward 10 years and with a romantic beach proposal in the bag, this fun-loving couple began planning their sweet vintage celebration at Mount Falcon. Ruth and Ronan's smiles are infectious and along with their stylish and fun guests their wedding looked like a lot a party we'd love to be invited to! You'll love their pics by Epic Love...
Ruth and Ronan found each other while they were both on a J1 in San Diego...If you did a J1 yourself (like me) you can reminisce about those Summer days as Ruth takes us on a trip down memory lane... One of my friends knew Ronan (she actually went to his debs with him a few years earlier!) So the two groups started to hang out together. One night we went to “The Beachcomber Bar” and got chatting, the following day we went on our first date and have been together ever since. Granted, I was two hours late for our first official date, neither of us had mobiles at the time so poor Ronan waited for 2 hours outside a diner in San Diego for me. He says that’s why he took ten years to propose…revenge!
Sandra and Valerie from The Powder Room Girls prepped and primed Ruth and the girls and kept the morning fun and relaxed for the bride to be!
We had been together for ten years so anytime we went away over the last few years our friends would always expect us to return engaged but Ronan decided to take his time with it! My parents have a house beside the beach in Wexford and over the years we spent a lot of time there. One weekend we were walking to my favourite part of the beach (where you can see seals playing in the water). I was looking at the water watching for seals when Ronan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He used my late Grandmother’s ring as a proposal ring.
We got married at the Church of St Thomas the Apostle in Callow by Father John Durkan who went to huge efforts to personalise our ceremony.
My close friend Adele sang in the church for us, she was fantastic, every song meant a lot to myself and Ronan.
Woohoo, it's official!
Now there is two happy newlyweds, let the smiles continue...
Ruth's lace wedding gown is a Pronovias number from Belladonna. The jewelled belt detail gives it that extra bit of glam and how much do you love that long veil? Swoon...
When it came to choosing the venue, a One Fab Day wedding caught Ruth's attention...I found Mount Falcon through a real wedding feature on One Fab Day just after we got in engaged. By chance Ronan was working near it the following week so he went to see it and loved it. Myself and my mum went the following week and loved it too. It was the idea of having the venue to ourselves and all of our friends either in the hotel or the houses on the grounds. We also thought that we could do a lot with the function room. The staff were so friendly and the food was amazing. Plus their ducks wander up from the pond to greet you!
The pair called on the talents of Rob of Epic Love Photography to capture their day and they weren't disappointed...Rob was fantastic on the day, I was nervous about the photos as I’m a blinker and do not possess a photo with my eyes open! But Rob made me feel so at ease, he blended into the background and you didn’t know when he was taking photos. Plus my family loved him!
Love the muted pinks and peaches in Ruth's bouquet, a beautiful addition to her elegant bridal look.
If you love Ruth's blush bridesmaid's dresses (from Dessy at Bcouture) and want to incorporate the look into your own wedding check out our Subtle & Sweet, Blush Bridesmaid Dresses feature that's full of gorgeous dresses in the shops now!
I was aiming for an elegant romantic feel with pastel colours and loads of flowers. I wanted the whole thing to be very relaxed and for people to just enjoy themselves.
My dad retired a few months before the wedding and turned into Franc from Father of the Bride! He painted our table numbers and our jam jars, he even tied the place names to the lavender and he stuck ribbon to our mass booklets! Other members of the family like Ronan’s dad made us signs with directions to the church and my sister’s boyfriend arranged lighting in the function room for us, a hands on affair!
Can we hire your Dad Ruth? Those place cards look perfectly tied with the lavender!
The soft colour palette of pink pastels worked well with the white washed table numbers and the vintage decor pieces.
Ruth and Ronan's advice for brides and grooms to be...Just remember that you are planning a big party, relax and enjoy it!
So where did these lovebirds go on honeymoon? Back to where it all began...San Diego of course! Huge congrats to you both! A big Thank You goes to Epic Love for sharing their work with us at One Fab Day. To see more of Epic Love's work pop over to www.epiclovephotography.com
