Happy Monday All! Say goodbye to those Monday blues people because we are starting off this week with the gorgeous flower power nuptials of Kathryn and Jonny. When I say colour-tastic and patterns galore, I mean it, this real wedding is a whirlwind of gorgeous tea party dresses, groomsmen with attitude and the most beautiful flowers - not to mention a seriously stylish bride! The celebration went down at Dromquinna Manor with guests enjoying the seaside sights. Super talented photographer and friend of the One Fab Day team Dave McClelland captured today's colourful celebration in all it's glory...
First things first, we need to get acquainted with Kathryn and Jonny, who met nearly seven years ago at a very cold barbecue in Edinburgh. Jonny, who hails from Perth, had recently arrived in Edinburgh, while Kathryn had been there for five years and was studying for a Masters. Jonny wasted no time in getting to know the beautiful Kathryn...In typical Jonny fashion he didn’t wait for any introduction and just walked straight up to me and started chatting. I instantly took a profound liking to him. We chatted for a while and then I made all my friends follow him to the local nightclub in the West End. It was there that Jonny bought me JD’s and cokes all night and we kissed on the dance floor - cringe! What can I say, the romance went into full swing with text messages and phone calls galore, followed by many dates and interludes. That was the beginning of our lifelong adventure!
We just love Kathryn's wedding dress, from one of our very own (and local) bridal boutiques, Myrtel Ivory! The stunning gown is embellished with thick lace details and the cap sleeves and sheer top is so sweet! Least we forget the gorgeous veil that Kathryn sourced on Etsy.com, the perfect accessory is just at your finger tips ladies so get online!
Four years after they met, Jonny popped the question. The pair had moved to Australia and been living there for two years when they took a trip back to Ireland for a holiday. Unbeknown to Kathryn, Jonny had a secret up his sleeve the whole time...We were home in Co Kerry during that very cold spell in 2010 and it was at the local Banna Beach that Jonny got down on one knee and asked me to marry him on the 29th of December! He had borrowed a ring from his mom as a token, which is now my wedding band. Jonny had asked my Dad if he could marry me only minutes before we left the house, so I’m sure you can imagine my Dad’s excitement! He told the whole family and they were all waiting for us back at the house with champagne and hugs. What a warm celebration to arrive back to!
Already you can see pops of colour emerging. From Kathryn's dainty pink suede shoes to Jonny's stripy tie! Just wait till you see the bridesmaids!
Here's the first glimpse of the stylish bridesmaid posse - tea party dresses full of colour and pattern! Yes we have died and gone to bridesmaid style heaven! Well done ladies.
Kathryn and Jonny chose the beautiful Holy Cross Church in Kenmare to have their ceremony, how gorgeous is that stained glass window?
Now that their official - I think it's time to celebrate!
Kathryn and Jonny hit the local with their nearest and dearest for some drinkies - even the street is full of colour for these lovebirds!
When Kathryn and Jonny started wedding planning, they knew they wanted to go back to Kathryn's country girl roots in Kerry. Kathryn knew immediately Dromquinna Manor would be perfect to bring back the memories of her childhood, riding horses surrounded by bales of hay and wild flowers. She spent weekends at Dromquinna Manor with her family, and knew the sweeping gardens and woods would be the perfect setting for their wedding day.
From the start Dromquinna Manor didn't let the couple down, it was so exciting for Kathryn to be able to get ready in the Manor and watch the day begin as people arrived. The venue has so much green space arround it for people to enjoy, that the couple made sure to bring their wedding outdoors through decor and floral displays.
What an incredible backdrop for your wedding photos! I'm sure this colourful bridal party put a smile on everyone's face even photographer David McClelland must have been smiling as he was snapping away, and talk about lucky ducks with the weather!
Such a sweet spot to steal a kiss before more fun with the bridal party...
Ok so we already told you how in love we are with the bridesmaids and do you blame us? Seven gorgeous gals in an array of colour and vintage patterns. Mis-matching was a key element in the day for Kathryn, so when it came to choosing her bridesmaid's dresses they came from not one but four different shops - Modcloth, Revolve Clothing, Debenhams and Lace Affair!
Well that's one way to start a party, now lets check out the decor of this fabulous day!
When it came to the vibe of the day Kathryn and Jonny had a vision...When visualising our wedding, all I could see were jam jars filled with wild flowers, hessian runners, lace table cloths and large banquet tables where everyone mucks in and serves their veggies and dessert out of large glass bowls in the centre of the table, with Jonny and I sitting amongst everyone. So that’s exactly what we had!
The pair stayed true to their vision and decorated the banqueting hall in gorgeous wildflowers. Using jam jars, pretty teapots and vintage finds to display the array of colourful blooms.
Mis-matching, patterns and staying true to nature was key for bride Kathryn...There was colour everywhere, from the wild flowers in the garden, bouquets and table settings to my bridal shoes, the groom's and groomsmen ties and the bridesmaids dresses. Nothing matched, not even the number of bridesmaids to groomsmen. Nothing matches in nature and that’s the beauty of it.
As Kathryn and Jonny were living abroad while planning their wedding, they enlisted the help of wedding planners Pearl & Godiva to put all the decor together on the day. They helped organise everything on the day, which Kathryn said was a blessing as she was able to experience the day like a guest. Creative bride Kathryn kept involved all the way from Australia though, by collecting jam jars, hand making the beautiful printed napkins and she even roped her Aunt in to be chief upholsterer of a vintage suitcase for holding flip-flops in!
The handmade napkins are such a sweet idea - and a great way to tie in the mis-matched prints idea to the tables.
As for desert - it was cheese! A girl after my own heart and what a chic display using cuttings from tree trunks and wooden cakes stands!
As the sun began to set, Kathryn and Jonny stepped outside for some intimate photographs in the beautiful gardens.
How gorgeous is Kathryn's bouquet? Pretty pops of colour against soft cream and pink flowers!
Kathryn had some advice for couples planning their own wedding day... Keep some tradition but don’t be afraid to deviate from the norm if you feel it’s just not you!! For example, we had a personal song as I walked up the aisle, we decided not to have round tables or a traditional cake and we had the speeches during the courses (which worked a treat) and the bride spoke first!
Congratulations, Jonny and Kathryn on your colourful wedding day! A big thank you goes to Dave McClelland for sharing his work with us today at One Fab Day! To see more of David McClelland's work pop over to www.davidmcclelland-photography.com
