A very special wedding this morning, a brilliant start to the week, the wedding of a fellow wedding professional, Jeannie of J-Bird Bakery in Belfast whose fantastic wedding cakes we have featured on more than one occasion. Last Summer on a gloriously sunny day, Jeannie married her college sweetheart Dave in a place as close to their hearts as it is possible to get - at her grandparent's home by the sea. As a wedding creative it is no surprise that Jeannie had loads of ideas and interesting elements to incorporate into their celebration, so to give you time to absorb all the loveliness and inspiration, we're bringing your Jeannie and Dave's wedding as photographed by the one and only Simple Tapestry, in two parts. Enjoy part 1, we promise you're going to love part 2!
Dave proposed to me in the pouring rain outside St. Annes Cathedral in Belfast. We were walking round to the cathedral quarter for a drink after a yummy meal. He told me to hold the umbrella while he got his phone out and then surprised me by getting down on one knee. Of course I said yes and we stood there for quite a while letting it all sink in!
Being immersed in weddings day in day out, Jeannie thought long and hard about how they wanted to make their vows and celebrate... "Dave and I wanted to change the traditional format of the day slightly. We decided that we wanted to spend the morning together before we said our vows so that we could relax and enjoy each others company and our family’s company. It was so lovely to be able to chat with our families before the madness began. Our lovely friend Jane made us all a yummy brunch at my family home in Bangor. The other reason behind this idea was so that we could get most of our more formal photos taken before guests arrived so that we wouldn’t have to leave the fun for too long after the ceremony and people didn’t have to wait too long for their dinner!" So the couple had a 'first look' with Simple Tapestry waiting in the wings...
After the excitement of the first look was over, the couple joined the bridal party and family for a lovely relaxed family brunch, served up by Jeannie's close friend Jane of Jane's Kitchen caterers. I adore this idea, only wish I'd thought of it for my own wedding. Such a nice way to quell the nerves and enjoy some quality time together before the
After brunch Jeannie hurried off for a quick change into her official wedding dress. (Yes, she had a second. Well what if she'd spilled some fruit juice on it at brunch? This lady was well-prepared. Told you she was a professional!)
The wedding was truly a family affair from beginning to end, and in all the little details. Not only did Jeannie and her Mum create the amazing cakes (more about those in part 2) at J-Bird Bakery, but her Aunt Jenny created the bouquets and styled all the wedding flower arrangements. What a family!
We feel very very blessed that we had such a stunning venue available to us and my Grandparents were so kind in opening their home and garden for us to use on our most special day! My Nana has the most beautiful garden and she worked very hard to get it looking it’s best in the very short time frame.
And finally, once the photos were done, the time came to walk down the aisle...
And what an aisle... the marquee was decorated in a palette of yellow, blue and pink, with giant balloons suspended from the ceiling, creating an awesome effect...
The day before our wedding was miserable, cold and rainy and I left the marquee thinking there was no way our guest would be able to stand outside and enjoy the garden or that we’d be able to open any of the big windows looking out over the sea.Well, we woke up to blue skies and sunshine and were married at 4 o’clock with every single window rolled up while the boats sailed back and forth in front of us saying our vows. That was an amazing moment.
Tune in just after lunch to gaze and gorge on all the amazing details in part 2 of Jeannie and Dave's wedding - trust me, this is not to be missed...
