There is nowhere in the world more fun and festive than Dingle on a Summer weekend, and so it made the perfect location for the summer fete today's real wedding couple Katy and Niall had planned for their wedding. Bringing a palette of bright colours and patterns to a marquee by the sea, bunting, blooms, cute kraft stationery and a pig in a spit this is my kind of wedding! We're delighted to be able to showcase this beautiful summer festival courtesy of photographer Pauline Dennigan.
Katy and Niall's love story started in super romantic fashion - their eyes met across a crowded room on the Professional Practice Course in the Law Society while the two were training to be Solicitors. Apparently this is a tried and tested route to marriage... (tip there for any singletons looking for a lifepartner). The pair were in the same tutorial group and love blossomed on the dancefloors of Harcourt Street on too many college nights out (this is definitely a story many can relate to I'm sure!)
Niall upped the ante in the romance stakes for the big 'popping of the question', proposing in the Residenza del Moro in Florence, Italy. "Florence is one of our favourite spots in the world - so beautiful. We then had a fantastic meal in the very romantic Villa san Michele sitting outside on the Loggia watching the fireworks in the nearby town of Fiesole."
The wedding ceremony took place in St Mary’s Church in the heart of Dingle, just down the road from the wedding at home in the marquee.
But before heading to the big tent, the guests popped into Dickie Mack's pub across the road from the church to get the celebrations started... "Oliver and the lads in the pub went to so much trouble while we took over the pub, but I’m sure they were glad to see the back of us." Ah, I'm sure they weren't! They're well used to the revelries of a couple in love and their best and most beloved.
How gorgeous is Katy's Eilis Boyle wedding dress? Such a unique design, fresh light make up and leaving her hair long and loose creates an overall look that is perfectly in tune with their relaxed Summer party vibe.
The newlyweds called on the talents of Pauline Dennigan to capture all the fun of their summer fete... "We were so lucky to encounter Pauline Dennigan, Pauline really understood what we were looking for. We didn’t want to have big formal photographs. She listened to what we were going for, the places we loved in Dingle and worked around us. We knew we were in good hands as we had some beautiful engagement photos taken by Pauline on Dun Sion beach, which were stunning!"
The choice of having a wedding at home was easy for the couple "As the saying goes “It must be Dingle!” It was an obvious choice for us and once we got in touch with Pavilion Marquees we knew that we could make the venue as personal as possible to us. We wanted to have a relaxed wedding that would reflect us. We were only able to do this because of the wonderful suppliers that we worked with and the hard work of our family and friends that went into the wedding in the months before the wedding."
The vision for the day was fun and festive, and determined to be summery no matter what the weather. Luckily the sun shone, and the brollies weren't necessary. Inside the marquee a whole team of helpers made up of Niall and Katy's friends and family, transformed the blank canvas with bright and colourful bunting, tablerunners and napkins, of of which were handmade by the bride's mother. Each table had a law book that the couple had used in college (where love blossomed in the first place!) with a Louis Mulcahy or a Nicholas Mosse jug of flowers as a centre piece, and kraft paper tags with handwritten quotes from the Little Book of Love as placenames .
Ever mindful of the little details, Katy didn't forget her two little assistants - the flowergirls, creating a sweet little kids' table, a great way to keep them entertained without leaving them out of the celebrations! The table and chairs are IKEA's finest, with a little extra bunting and some pretty trinkets to keep them occupied.
I have to admit, I am a little jealous of this tea party. But for the adults there were also treats in store. We're always impressed with a pig on a spit at One Fab Day, and it's the perfect style of food for a fete style wedding. Katy and Niall were thrilled with Wildside Catering who catered for the whole day, and I'm not surprised the food looks seriously yum!
What advice would you give to brides and grooms planning their day? "Enjoy every second of your engagement. It really is such a special time. If you are planning your wedding yourself look to your suppliers. They are the experts, they know what they are doing. We recognized that our suppliers knew best and we let them get on with their work. We had a great relationship with all our suppliers and without them we wouldn’t have had the special day that we did."
Congratulations to Katy and Niall for sharing their special day with us! Such an inspiration for those contemplating hosting a celebration at home. And of course a big thank you to Pauline Dennigan for sharing her lovely work with One Fab Day - head over to www.denniganphotography.ie to see more.
