You are in for a treat this morning One Fab Day readers as we have the magical Real Wedding of Pamela and Peter in Ballybeg House. Our creative bride, Pamela took her love of all things Wizard of Oz and created a magical and playful wedding day. On hand to capture all the colourful details was David McClelland. So click those heels and transport yourself to a magical wonderland - enjoy...
Unusually for a Ballybeg wedding, Peter got to relax in Grouse Lodge in the grounds, while Pamela stayed in the main house with her ladies. Looks like he used the party house to great effect - playing a rousing game of chess!
So how did you lovebirds meet? We met in Whelans at a friends gig. I was just finishing up college in Limerick at the time, and had just flown in from a short break in Italy so ended up staying the night to catch up with friends. Only a few weeks later I was offered a job in Dublin and he’s kept me here ever since. Zip forward a few years and New Years 2010, in Connemara Peter popped the question and the planning began in earnest.
Pamela's vintage wedding dress fitted perfectly with her 'Wizard of Oz' theme, it's a dreamy layered lace confection recalling days gone by. The bride-to-be found the gorgeous and feminine Elizabeth Avey dress while in London, shopping on her own (something she highly recommends by the way). By adding delicate accessories like her pearl necklace, bow headband and of course those ruby red shoes her look is complete, now just to add the groom...
For their ceremony Pamela and Peter chose the St.Patricks and St.Killian's Church closeby, with the bride arriving in style in a 1954 Morris Minor, to an anxiously waiting groom. Spot the blue and yellow florals, ties and bridesmaids dresses - Pamela coordinated everything perfectly but subtly, bringing a touch of Oz to those who have a keen eye.
Big smiles all round!
So cute...
After the 'I do's' it was off to Pamela and Peter's Wedding reception...We were looking for somewhere that would really let us put our mark on the day. I came across Ballybeg House on the internet. It was the first venue we went to see and we both fell instantly in love with it. We both had a lot of family travelling for the wedding so it was great to find somewhere so unique and in such amazing surroundings.
Our bride today is stylish and creative when it came to her wedding day she was hands on...I’m from a fashion design background so I made the bridesmaids dresses myself. I hadn’t seen any dresses that I felt would work so designing and making them myself seemed like the best option. The end result was cornflower blue knee length dress with an A-line kick to compliment my dress..and a polka dot yellow and cream band to further tie in with the wedding colour scheme. I wanted something not too formal and the girls looked great.
Ballybeg House was the perfect venue to add a touch of magic with their theme...
For the wedding we knew we wanted something fun and colourful, something that would set the mood for the day so we used bright playful colours like yellow and light blue. I have always being a huge Wizard of Oz fan, it's something family and old friends are be well aware of, so when I realised that a slightly Oz-esque colour story was coming through, that brought the gingham and other touches such the ‘There’s no place like home’ wine bottle tags ( Etsy) as well as some quotes we positioned around the place, so it wasn’t overkill with the theme, but their were subtle touches that tied it all together, oh and of course the red shoes! I really enjoyed researching ideas and themes. I created moodboards early on in the planning for all the different elements and this really helped clarify what colour stories and styles I was drawn too. Moodboards also act as great visual tools when dealing with suppliers as it helps gives them a very clear idea of what you want.
As well as the bridesmaid dresses I made all the bunting, pompoms and other decorations. I also made the cake topper, the table runners, table plan and the favours. I really enjoyed every second of the planning and making.
Accessories like the cakestand was from from Me Auld China, Pamela even made the cake topper for the cake, she is super woman!
What was your favourite part of the day? Honestly, we enjoyed every second. We had huge smiles on our faces all day. How often do you get to have all your family and friends in one place? We wanted a relaxing, fun day and thankfully everything went wonderfully.
A huge congratulations to our very own Dorothy, Pamela and her groom Peter on their very special day and thank you for sharing their wedding day with us.
