Are you ready to be won over by a heartwarming Irish romance that all started at the Rose of Tralee? Our Real Wedding couple Nicola and Páidí decided to tie the knot in Wexford and had their reception across the border at the scenic Mountain View in Kilkenny. The amazing images were captured effortlessly by Fox + Quil Photography and the result is a gorgeous wedding story that radiates warmth, fun and beautiful style.
The couple met during a chance encounter back in 2010 at the Rose of Tralee Festival in Kerry. Nicola says, "Páidí and I met in a crowded bar around 5am at the Rose of Tralee festival. We kept in touch and a full year later he finally made some dance moves that I just couldn't resist. We spent the first three years of our relationship as a long-distance couple, between Ireland and the UK, never going more than six weeks without seeing each other. Then in 2014 we took a leap of faith and moved in together in Wexford. The rest, as they say, is history!"
We love Nicola's polka-dot appliqué dress from Indie Grace Bridal. The addition of pearl embellishment on her handbag, drop earrings and those gorgeous heels were the perfect choice to complement the design and sweet button detail on the front - elegant and beautiful.
Nicola says that Páidí proposed while the couple were in Indonesia for their eight-year anniversary. "The proposal was very moving and emotional for us both," Nicola explained. "Towards the end of the trip we were on Gili Air Island and on our last day Páidí convinced me to get up at 5am to catch the sunrise across Mount Rinjani. As we walked along the beach, I stopped to take some photos and when I turned around, Páidí was down on one knee. We were both in shock and there were lots of happy tears, it was a perfect moment."
The couple had ice cream cones for guests big and small after their summer ceremony which we're told went down a treat! Nicola says, "One of our favourite parts of the day was having ice cream with our guests after mass. We were lucky to have extra friends and family able to attend our mass and we wanted to give them something special to say thank you. The ice cream was absolutely delicious and created some amazing photos!"
Nicola's parents dried her bouquet after the wedding and put it in a frame to keep forever; we love that idea! The lavender which was included in the bouquet and the button holes came from her mum's garden in Glaslough, which was a wonderful personal touch.
Although they married in August, it actually rained all afternoon so the couple had much of their photoshoot in 'The Cow Shed' which gave them some really gorgeous shots. They took it all in their stride with Nicola gamely saying it was 'very apt for a farmer and his wife!"
There were some special members of the clan missing on the day, but that doesn't mean they weren't in their thoughts. "Our little dog, Dooley, was unable to join in the fun on the day, but our extremely thoughtful bridesmaid Nuala, gifted us a wedding cake topper with a little puppy on it, so he could be there in spirit!" The couple also included pictures of their parents and grandparents alongside the wedding cake creating a touching set up. Nicola says that detail was very special to them.
The couple chose Mountain View in Ballyhale, Kilkenny for three reasons; setting, décor and food; but also because the team was a dream. "They truly excel at what they do. Everyone we met was down to earth and good craic and that's what we truly hold valuable in life. We booked Mountain View with only a few weeks to go and they couldn't have been more helpful, understanding or easy going."
Another cute addition this creative couple created was stringing up fairy lights and pictures of the people who couldn't make it so that everyone was there in spirit!
Nicola says, "The priority for our wedding was always to have a relaxing weekend for our guests. We wanted them to have plenty to eat & drink and really relax. We wanted laid back, chilled vibes, with music, dancing and most of all to celebrate love!" To loosen everyone up, they decided to play the "After Eight Challenge” before the speeches. How does it work? Nicola explains: "You take an After Eight, place it on your forehead and attempt to get it into your mouth, without using your hands! It went down a storm with our guests and had everyone in stitches." They even had a little cup for the winner!
Nicola's advice for couples getting married is brilliant: "The best piece of advice we could give is to be true to yourselves, this day is all about love and the ceremony of marriage. It's very easy to get swept in the must-haves and other people's opinions and expectations. At the end of the day, you will be married to the person of your dreams and that's all that truly matters."
