When Kerrie and Micheál began planning their gorgeous castle wedding, they had a few must-haves - good food, a fun atmosphere and their favourite people! The result was a delicate, pearly white, Gatsby-esque dream, and we just loved it! As Kerrie is a designer for Folkster, we expected the bridal and bridesmaids style to be next-level, and we weren't disappointed! Captured though the talented eye of Weddings by Jason Photography, these pictures from the gorgeous Castle Leslie Estate are sure to leave you breathless! Take a look!
The Monaghan couple tell us that they knew each other for quite a while before they paired up! "We knew each other growing up as we lived only ten minutes away and our families all knew one another. We worked in the same local supermarket for a time. Kerrie's sister also married one of Micheál's best friends, so our paths were always intertwined. However, even though there was an interest in each other for quite a while, our paths didn't cross romantically until Micheál moved home from Australia in February 2017! We went on our first date three weeks later and within six months, we were looking for an apartment together, so it's safe to say we were sure we had found the right person!"
Kerrie's stunning dress was from Folkster Bridal, of course!
The gorgeous hairpiece and pearl earrings were from Lori Muldoon, while the ring came from Hearts and Arrows, Antwerp.
We just adore Kerrie's shoes, which came from Freya Rose. How gorgeous are they?!
When it came to the proposal, Micheál tells us that he whisked Kerrie away for a surprise trip to Dubai! He picked her up from work on a Friday evening and they headed for the airport. He recalls, "Earlier in the day, I got the help of her best friend to pack her suitcase, easily the most stressful part of the whole thing! It wasn't until we checked in that she realised we were flying to Dubai." The couple arrived at The Address Downtown Hotel in Dubai the following morning, where the hotel staff had agreed to prep the couple's room with candles, flowers and Champagne during dinner! "When we got back to the room, we went out to the balcony and I got down on one knee, and the penny dropped! I asked her to marry me with my Mother's engagement ring and after her initial shock and bout of laughing, she finally said yes!"
Kerrie's dress was a botanical beauty, with floral detailing back and front, combined with draped sleeves that matched the train of the dress in all its glory! We adored the detailing at the back of her button-up, sheer bodice.
The stunning bridesmaids dresses were designed by Kerrie at Folkster! We just love the golden, earthy tones!
Don't these guys look suave!?
We asked the couple what made their venue the one, and they sang Castle Leslie Estate's praises. "We wanted a venue that was special to us, one we would like to come back to year after year and one that would blow our guests away, that's why we went with Castle Leslie," they tell us. "Everything from the decor, to the grounds, to the staff to just the feeling you just get when you walk around it, is incredible. It's such a stunning venue and on top of that, the food is out of this world. I cannot recommend them enough."
The amazing flower arrangements in the dining room add such elegance to the space!
The cake was made by Caoimhe Ward, Kerrie's talented sister!
The couple tell us that the most important thing was that their castle wedding went ahead in spite of Covid-19 restrictions. "We were just so grateful that our day was going ahead, that was the most special feeling ever!" they say. "We had spent so long in limbo, not knowing what sort of wedding we were going to have or if there was going to be a wedding at all due to restrictions, that we honestly just were over the moon it was happening. Although hard not being able to have certain family and friends there, having most of our nearest and dearest share the most special day of our lives was honestly incredible."
The couple chose to have a saxophone player lead them into the reception room, while Naomi Laide Music provided the beautiful ceremony music.
In terms of advice for other couples planning their big day, the couple said it was all about planning smartly. They tell us, "Make lists and plan ahead and ask yourself twice, 'is this going to add to our day?' Be smart with your reuse of flowers and table settings, if you have a budget for that area. And finally, enjoy it! Enjoy the planning and enjoy the little milestones. Enjoy the countdown and get excited, it really is the best day you will ever have."
