If the past year has taught us anything, it's that there's no one way to say I Do. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, couples went for raucous, house party-style bashes, during the pandemic, it's all about small guest lists and intimate dinners, and, after the pandemic, we expect we'll see lots of both! In today's Sunday Selection, we're sharing four stylish real weddings from both sides of the spectrum; a mountaintop elopement with no guests at all, two intimate lockdown weddings, and a pre-pandemic bash that's making us nostalgic for big guest lists! We hope you love these beautiful big days as much as we do...
On Top of the World: Stephanie and Jordan
An elopement in the San Juan Mountains in Ouray, Colorado is hardly a traditional choice, but one that worked out beautifully for Chicago couple Stephanie and Jordan. Joined by their photographer, Sean from Vows and Peaks, this adventurous pair hiked to a special spot to exchange vows, pop a bottle of bubbly and take some otherworldly wedding portraits. We love how Stephanie accessorised her Maggie Sottero gown with a faux fur jacket and ear muffs, and how Jordan popped Stephanie's bouquet in his backpack for the trek! Small but Perfectly Formed: Yvonne and Reuben
The first thing that strikes you about Yvonne and Reuben's wedding photographs by the talented Nina Val Photography (aside from, perhaps, how stunning Yvonne looks in her sequin dress!) is how thrilled this pair are to be married! It makes sense when you learn that the paperwork for Irish bride Yvonne and American groom Reuben's wedding arrived just in time for them to say I Do at the registry office in Dublin city! With just seven guests in tow due to Covid-19 restrictions, this couple made the most of their day with a fun-filled portrait session around the city, including a recreation of a photograph from Yvonne's Grandma and Grandpa's own big day many years before - how sweet! You can see the full set of photos on Nina's blog, here.
One Big Party: Rebecca and Alan
A laid-back summer celebration at Mount Druid, Rebecca and Alan's July 2019 wedding was a true reflection of their personalities. Rebecca tells us, "Alan and I knew from day one that we wanted a relaxed celebration with lots of fun - one big party! Our wedding had a wild, natural, rustic vibe, coupled with great food and a chic, festival-style party." Featuring bold greenery and a beautiful bespoke wedding dress, their day was captured by photographic team The Fennells - you'll find the full set of images on their blog here.
Something Blue: Aoife & Connie
Like so many couples, Aoife and Connie made the tough decision to downsize their wedding due to Covid-19, but ended up having the loveliest day! They made it official at Belfast City Hall, in front of a small group of friends and family members, before heading off to Howard Street restaurant for dinner and to The Jailhouse at Henry's Bar for some post-dinner cocktails. We think that sounds just fabulous, and we're particularly taken by both of their bridal looks - we're struggling to think of cooler combinations than a blue trouser suit with heels, or a lace wedding dress with Dr Martens! Steph from X + O Photography captured their chic city wedding in some drop-dead gorgeous photographs - you can see more on her website here.
