We often begin a real wedding feature by talking about what makes the big day special, but Sara and Francesc from Spain, give new meaning to the word unique! Their theatre wedding in Barcelona was like a wild variety show with a wedding in the middle, and, coolest of all, both the ceremony and reception venues were a surprise to their guests! They started the day in a theatre-style nightclub, before travelling (partially by forklift!) to a beautifully-decorated dining room in an old farmhouse. Featuring smoke machines, neon signs and lots and lots of decor inspo, and captured by photography and videography duo Wedding's Art, this is one seriously offbeat and gorgeous wedding!
Sara tells us that she met Francesc through work. "We met at the town disco, since we both worked as waiters there." How appropriate, then, that they would choose a nightclub as the setting for their ceremony!
This couple decided to push the boundaries of the traditional wedding format. "We wanted it not to be a normal wedding," Sara says. "It was a party, throughout the meal, with shows, singers, and acrobatics! Honestly, it was f*cking amazing!"
Sara and Francesc tell us that their wedding date - December 28th - is Spain's version of April Fools' Day, so they decided to run with this theme! "Guests didn't know where the wedding was, they were told to go to a collection point, where the bus picked them up! The bus eventually left them in the parking lot of a nightclub, so you can imagine all guests' faces!"
After the ceremony at La Cabra nightclub, the couple and their guests travelled to a 19th-century farm house, El Molà de Llobet, for the reception. "It's an old mill that's renovated inside, but it doesn't look very good from the outside," Sara says. "To go up to the dining room, guests had to take a forklift in groups of 12, that passed through an abandoned warehouse full of cobwebs and dust!"
When the guests arrived at the beautifully-decorated dining room, things really kicked into high gear! "Two drag queens opened the door, which left the guests even more surprised, and in this moment, the show started! The dinner show was run by Vernissage Catering, all enlivened with the performances of Transtorners and other artists, and the live music of Tu Musica Events."
The couple's colour palette for the wedding was an unconventional one, but we love the result! "We decorated the entire ceiling with greenery and hanging candles, and decided to fill it all with black candles," Sara says. "The color palette for the floral decoration was pink, black and gold, and the photo backdrop was a spectacular neon sign."
Sara's advice to engaged couples is to do everything in your power to allow themselves to relax the day. "It's a day that passes very quickly, so you have to enjoy every second of this wonderful day."
For their honeymoon, the couple went to Miami and the Caribbean - we felt a pang of jealousy just typing that! "We went to Miami seeking good weather, and after a week in Miami, we moved to the Caribbean sea two more weeks," Sara says. "We really recommend it, we loved it!"
