Frankly, there are few activities that we enjoy more than to "ooo" and "ah" over photos that come in for a new real wedding feature! And all this week as we come to the end of the wild year that was 2020, we'll be bringing you some of the highlights from the last 12 months, starting today with the One Fab Day team's favourite real weddings of the year.
This year we featured weddings in all styles, sizes and places too. We had ceremonies that took place over Zoom, a wedding in a brewery, a surprise wedding, and more than one wedding where alpacas were on the guest list! We had couples who met as teens in the aisles of SuperValu, couples who met in later life, LGBT couples, couples with children, couples with fur babies, Halloween weddings, and the first of it's kind for us: a fully fledged Covid(-era) Wedding. To be honest, it's very tough to only pick one favourite each – after all, each and every wedding we publish has a special place in our hearts! That being said, we’ve chosen some especially inspiring weddings that stood out for us this year at One Fab Day.
Naoise, Managing Director
Naoise loved Stephanie and Stephen's Covid-friendly, 'Little Big Day' at City Hall captured by Danielle O'Hora Photography. See the wedding in full, here.
"In this strangest of years, the expression "love conquers all" took on new meaning. For all the couples who had their weddings planned this year, it was a rollercoaster ride and keeping the faith that their wedding would be worth it was decidedly difficult. It was for this reason that Stephanie and Stephen's wedding stood out to me as one of my favourites of 2020. It proved that it was all worth it; that love does conquer all; and that nothing is sweeter than those simple words: I do. A wedding isn't about all the details and the pomp, it's about two people standing up and making their vows with the people they love close by. Also, Stephanie's wedding dress is just epic for this kind of pared back city wedding. Love!"
Susan, Creative Director
Susan fell hard for Una and Paul's utterly fabulous garden wedding at the groom's parents house captured by Into The Light Photography. See the wedding in full, here.
"The ultimate dream for lots of couples is a wedding at home, and what a ridiculously gorgeous garden to get to use. Lucky ducks!"
Áine, Business Development Manager
Áine loved the style and the setting of Kate and Anthony's elegant Luttrellstown Castle wedding by Niamh Smith of the Photography Hub. See the wedding in full, here.
"I am a big fan of this venue as I had my own wedding in Luttrellstown, I loved how all of the details were chic, yet simple as the venue speaks for itself. All of the details were captured so well, and Kate's veil was just stunning!"
Karen, Editorial & Administration
Karen loved everything about Thomas & Sarah's incredibly stylish celebration at Mount Druid captured by Emma Russell Photography. See the wedding in full, here.
"I found it very hard to pick a favourite this year as we've had so many inspiring couples grace our pages, but from the moment it landed in our inbox, Thomas & Sarah's wedding wowed me. Both bride and groom blew me away with their incredible style and are the perfect example of how to be brave with your wedding day look. We're talking two dresses (one vintage), a dapper check three-piece and some seriously cool accessories! It also looked to be one hell of a party too! Defo wish I was on this guest list for this one."
Orlaith, Editorial
Orlaith loved Rachel and Kevin's beautiful brewery wedding full of love and smiles by Kevin Murphy Photography. See the wedding in full, here.
Celina, Deputy Editor
Celina's stand-out wedding this year was Gráinne and Sean's small and chic city celebration photographed by Michelle Prunty Photography. See the wedding in full, here.
“Intimate city weddings have long been my favourites, and, as I know lots of couples will be looking to them for inspiration at the moment, I am only too delighted to point them in direction of Gráinne and Sean’s chic yet simple bash in Dublin. The style is beautiful throughout, and I love the cameo played by the couple’s dog in their signage!”
Claire, Editor
It was Hattie and Brendan's wedding at the Royal Botanic Gardens in London photographed by Mark Bothwell Photography that still has Claire swooning! See the wedding in full, here.
"So I'm totally biased about this one because Brendan and Hattie are my close pals, but just a glance at their London wedding and you'll see what made it so spectacular. The spaces at Kew Gardens are stunning enough, but this pair took them to the next level with incredible florals and styling (look out for the ceremony backdrop, the bar and the place-settings) . The gospel choir, the food, the pun-tastic table names - every detail was so well executed. I love that it was the kind of wedding where the guests all brought their style A-game, and as for the bride and groom; what a pair of stunners! I have a feeling Hattie's gown will inspire lots of brides to look at something a little bit different. "
