Today's real wedding is every bit the chic country house vibes we know you'll love. Doireann and Vincent said their 'I dos' in the ever-gorgeous Gloster House in County Offaly. The couple certainly brought a WOW factor to an already show-stopping location. From the next-level floral arrangements to bridesmaids looks with incredible flair, not to mention a couple who are glamour personified, this wedding is one to get your Pinterest board ready for. A truly gorgeous affair filled with love and all beautifully captured by Barney Walters Photography.
Doireann and Vincent met back in 2013 when she moved to Cape Town to work as a doctor. "I moved into an apartment not knowing that Vincent lived in the apartment upstairs," Doireann told us. "We bumped into each other one sunny Saturday morning on the rooftop car park when Vincent came out to inspect the broken electric gate. He initially tried to accuse me of breaking the gate but then I eventually got an invite to his birthday party later that evening. We dated for the six months I lived in Cape Town but sadly, I then had to return home to Ireland to finish my training. We very much didn't want it to end so we called each other every day and visited each other over the next year until Vincent made the decision to move to Ireland."
In keeping with their international romance, Vincent organised to propose to Doireann when they were on a Spanish getaway. "Vincent proposed on a long weekend trip away to San Sebastian," Doireann told us. "We had a lovely evening out eating pinchos and sampling the delicious wine the region had to offer. Vincent proposed when we returned to the apartment later that night. I nearly died of shock - I was really not expecting! He proposed with a ring he had made in South Africa. It was absolutely perfect!"
And while Doireann was keen to have a wedding at home in Ireland, Vincent also wanted to include parts of his South African culture in the wedding. The couple really wanted to create a day that everyone would enjoy every minute of, "We felt that this comes down to creating the right ambience, having great food and music," Doireann shared. "We are real foodies so we wanted the food to be of high quality and plenty of it! We also really liked the idea of being able to hire out a house in the countryside and having it to ourselves."
Now that's what you call floral decor!
So all of this combined, lead them to Gloster House. "We had visited four different venues prior to Gloster House and whilst each were serious contenders, we did not have a unanimous yes from both us and our parents," Doireann told us. "Gloster House felt so special. We adored the architecture of the house. We felt the venue had so much potential. It has so many different spaces we could use from an onsite chapel, a beautiful courtyard and a glorious hallway for the drinks reception – it was a unanimous ‘yes’ from all parties involved as we walked around! I adored the white chapel. It had such a wow factor when we first walked in. I could just picture the flowers and the choir. We also loved the idea that our guests didn’t have to travel from the Church to the venue. It was a one-stop venue."
While Gloster House is truly beautiful, it was important for the couple to put their own personal stamp on the wedding and create a magical and unique look. With the house as elegant as it is, the natural choice was for floral decor, which was top of Doireann's anyway. "I adore flowers so I really wanted to splash out on the flowers for the day," Doireann admitted. "I wanted to have Protea in my bouquet as this is the National flower of South Africa. During my research of flowers, I came across a varietal called 'Blushing Bride' which happened to be the same colour as the bridesmaid dresses! So, this flower featured in my bouquet and was used for the Grooms and Groomsmens’ buttonholes too."
It wasn't just the floral decor though, every element was carefully considered to bring that personal touch. "Vincent is South African so we wanted South African wine at our wedding to remind us of our earlier dating days," Doireann also told us. "I think music is such an important part of the day in creating the ambience and for us, the choir really set the tone and looking back, they are definitely one if not the biggest highlight for us. So many people commented after that ArÃs choir were the highlight of the day. People left the chapel singing and clapping."
Doireann and Vincent have some very practical advice to share from their experience of planning their stylish country house wedding. "Plan for the hidden costs - especially the hidden costs of having a wedding in a private house rather than a hotel," Doireann says. "Everything is hired separately for a private wedding in a house and it is therefore difficult to budget for giving the various and multiple unknowns. Having your wedding in a hotel is set price from the outset, so definitely easier to budget for and you don't have to consider renting all the various elements."
Thanks so much to today's couple Doireann and Vincent for sharing their wonderfully glamorous wedding with us and to Barney Walters Photography for being there to capture it all.
