A Fun Wedding at Home with an All-White Colour Palette: Esther & Richard

This couple threw out the rule book and held their all-white wedding at home in their back garden and the results are truly stunning.

Today's real wedding proves that traditional wedding rules are meant to be broken as Esther and Richard said their 'I dos' in a sea of white. Opting to host the whole event at their Edinburgh home, the pair wanted to be surrounded by the life they've built so far as they took the next step in their adventure together. As many couple's try to navigate the 'Dos and Don'ts' of wedding planning, this couple threw out the rule book and the results are truly gorgeous. With photography from Karolina Kotkiewicz, the images below will be all the convincing many couples need to follow suit.

Esther and Richard are the product of good old-fashioned matchmaking, being introduced by Richard's Aunt and Esther's mum who had been friends for years.

Just as the couple chose to marry at home, Richard chose to propose at home in what Esther described as a 'quiet, heartfelt and emotional proposal' on Christmas Day in 2017.

When it came to the planning, the couple had very set ideas about how they wanted to celebrate. "The most important thing was having our friends and family there truly taking part in the day," Esther said. "Not just about two people tying the knot, but celebrating all the things that make up our life together with the people that make it so."

Esther's gorgeous lace dress was from designer Tatsiana Marynich while Richard's white suit was from Twisted Tailor.

Deciding to celebrate at home took much of the stress of booking a venue and securing a date out of the planning stages, allowing the couple to really enjoy the process.

"Hosting the whole day at home was absolutely perfect and really what made it special," they said of their forever venue. "For us, home is definitely where the heart is. We are a big family of seven - plus Marmo, the Collie - and our marriage really is about our children as much as it is about us. We are proud of what we've managed to create and home is where we've managed to achieve that, so where better to celebrate?"

Esther and Richard's wedding was made truly unique thanks to their want for all those in attendance to wear white. From the bridal party's dresses to Richard's suit to the flowers used in the arrangements and bouquets - the monochromatic theme made it a stand out.

"The day was really special due to the fact everyone bought into wearing white and looked so stylish doing it," the couple said of their colour scheme.

"Also because everyone threw themselves into the dress up and props for singing Madness It Must Be Love during the ceremony. That will always be a memorable moment."

The celebrant on the day, Lorna Irvine, also wrote and delivered "one of the most relevant and extremely entertaining services ever". She too embraced the lighthearted and fun vibe of the day and incorporated that into her service.

As for the couple's honeymoon, well, they're waiting for their last child to leave for university before jetting off.

Esther and Richard echo the advice of many of our couples and that is to not get caught up in trying to plan everything. "Pick the stuff that matters to you and focus on that," they say.

This is when we thank this week's gorgeous couple Esther and Richard for sharing their uniquely special day with us. And of course, thanks to Karolina Kotkiewicz for capturing the life and fun in this very special wedding.
