Castle weddings are synonymous with grandeur and romance, but they can also be incredibly joyful and laid-back affairs, as proven by the real wedding we're sharing today! Kate and Anthony are an Irish couple based in the UK, who planned their big day at Luttrellstown Castle with two objectives in mind; allowing their personalities to shine through, and showing their guests a good time! The result is the kind of outrageously chic celebration that looks incredible in photographs (Niamh Smith of the Photography Hub was kind enough to share them, so we could all drool over them together!) but also terrific fun to attend. So let's dive in!
Kate tells us that she met Anthony at college in Dublin. "I then went to college in Budapest, so we went our separate ways. We met again six years later through groups of mutual friends. Anthony likes to tell people we met on Tinder to keep things simple!"
Anthony popped the question on Kate's 30th birthday during a trip to Bath. "It was very kind of him to take the heat off my age!" Kate jokes. "He proposed in our beautiful hotel room. I ugly cried and blubbered for 20 mins before being able to say yes. Then we rang our families and the tears began again!"
Stacey from Making Faces Makeup Studio created a flawless beauty look for Kate and her girls, featuring a subtle eyeliner and bold lip.
For this pair, planning the wedding was all about personalisation! "It was important to us that we could design a day that reflected what we wanted to celebrate as a couple. Good food and wine were a close second!"
When it came time to choose a venue, the couple were immediately drawn to Luttrellstown Castle. "The setting felt effortlessly classy and it didn’t make our wedding day feel too formal," Kate says. "Our abiding memory is that everyone had fun, was relaxed and enjoyed the party."
Once they paid the venue a visit, the deal was sealed! "As soon as we drove up the tree-lined avenue at Luttrellstown, we knew it was the one," Kate says. "We loved that we had the venue to ourselves and every room in the castle is spectacular. It was a clear winner."
Kate and Anthony tell us that they were really keen to get their loved ones involved in the wedding. "The day was made really special by contributions from friends and family. The adaptability of a humanist ceremony meant we could include songs, poems and extracts that meant something to us."
The Gothic Hall at Luttrellstown Castle needs very little dressing up, but these simple gypsophila arrangements make a lovely addition to the space.
This sounds like one seriously talented family! Kate tells us, "My granny, Joan, sang 'A Bunch of Thyme' with her five daughters and granddaughters, a memory we will always cherish. The speeches were heartfelt and funny. Anthony's mum, Jackie, took on the best man role and roasted her son, receiving a standing ovation at the end!"
Kate's advice for engaged couples is to spend time finding suppliers who are a good fit for your wedding. "Pick suppliers that you trust and that get your vibe, not necessarily the most expensive ones!"
Pink bridesmaids dresses are such a foolproof choice for a summer wedding. It's hard to believe that these gorgeous Monsoon gowns are a high street buy!
Kate's bridal look is so timeless! She chose a full-skirted, bateau-neck dress with embellished belt from David's Bridal, accesorising with a simple veil, ankle-strap heels and pearl earrings gifted by her mum.
We are absolutely floored by this divine-looking wedding cake, which was made by Anthony's mum, Jackie. It must be incredible to have such a gifted baker in the family!
After the wedding, Kate and Anthony jetted off to Tuscany for what sounds like a blissful honeymoon. "We drank wine by the pool, ate pasta three meals a day, and then had to be rolled home!"
Before we wrap up, we've got to say a huge thank you to Kate and Anthony for sharing their gorgeous day with us, and to Niamh Smith for providing the imagery! There are more details from their wedding in the gallery below, so be sure to click through for a look.
