The couple at the centre of today's real wedding joked that their wedding was inspired by hygge, the Danish word to describe cosy contentment, usually enjoyed indoors during the winter months, and we totally understand what they mean! Holly and Seán may have had a raucous, largely outdoor wedding in the height of summer, but there's an unmistakable sense of cosiness and about their big day! From the rustic, retro-styled florals, to the outrageously romantic spaces at their venue, The Station House Hotel, to the broad, beaming smiles in every single one of their photos by Pawel Babenca, this feels like such a warm and intimate affair, and we can't wait to show it to you in more detail!
Holly and Seán tell us that they met on Tinder. "We had one mutual common interest according to our Tinder profile - the band Tame Impala," Holly remembers. "We had our first date in the Mercantile pub, and it turned out we had both been at the same Kanye West gig in Vicar Street some ten years earlier. We discovered we had many more common interests from there!"
Seán popped the question during a trip to Ibiza. "He proposed with my Nana’s engagement ring at a sunset bar," Holly says. "I was a bit taken aback, and, after I said yes, I immediately put the ring in my handbag!"
We are enormous fans of Holly's bridal look, which revolves around the most gorgeous, retro-inspired wedding dress by Spanish brand Immaclé Barcelona. Her '70s-look two-piece is so stunning, it barely needed any accessorising! We're also quite partial to the mix-and-match bridesmaids dresses her gals wore, which were sourced on ASOS.
Holly describes the couple's dream wedding day as, "rustic, and laid back, with simple but pretty décor."
The outdoor ceremony space at The Station House Hotel is so, so beautiful! What was once a stone turntable, where trains turned for their journey back to Dublin, is now an exceedingly romantic amphitheatre in the woods!
The couple tell us that their top priority for the big day was putting on an incredible 'do! "The main thing was that we wanted the day to feel like a party and not be confined by formality or tradition. We really wanted a casual wedding, spent having fun with our closest friends and family."
Another high priority was keeping the dancefloor full! "We decided to just have a DJ instead of a band," Holly says, "which worked out really well for us, as we got to hear so many of our favourite songs. The dancefloor got a bit wild as the night went on, which was exactly what we had wanted."
It took Holly and Seán no time at all to fall in love with The Station House Hotel - in fact, they only viewed two venues in total. "We knew The Station House was a good fit from the get go," Holly says. "We loved the ceremony area in the woods, and the relaxed feel. It felt intimate, exactly what we were looking for. Not to mention, the staff were always so lovely."
Among the highlights for this pair was feeling the sheer amount of love in The Station House Hotel that day! "People’s reactions and genuine happiness for us really made our day feel very special. We were very touched by people travelling long distances to be there, and we loved seeing everyone having a great time."
Outdoor speeches always make for a relaxed celebration, which is just what Holly and Seán wanted. An important aside: how amazing does Seán's Mam look in her wedding-day finery!?
To make things even more personal, Holly and Seán included a handful of DIY elements in their day. "We made succulent wedding favours (with the help of Seán’s family), the rustic cake topper and various other little bits. It was great seeing it all come together on the day."
Holly's advice for engaged couples is to ditch traditions that don't resonate with you. "Do whatever makes you feel happy and don’t worry about what people will think. And enjoy the planning, it can be so much fun!"
This just looks like the most beautiful day! At this point, we've got to say a huge thank you to Holly and Seán for sharing their wedding with us, and to Pawel Babenca for providing the gorgeous photographs. We highly recommend clicking through to the gallery to see the full set of images!
